I am feeling so grateful for all the support I am receiving to be able to bring Communication for Connection to Waiapu Valley :
Ruatoria - March 27th & 28th!
This workshop is Free for Early Childhood, funded by Napier Ministry of Education and brought to you by the Gisborne Kindergarten Assoc. Please email me for registrations and any questions: [email protected]
Torou hawaiki,
Kia Ora Whanau,
I thought you might like to share this story I got to write with our friend Papa Pura. I first met Pura at Rutene Road Kindergarten and like many of us parents and our tamariki, he made a deep and lasting impression on me. His story is so neat, I thought you might like to share this with our kindergarten families, so they can get to know a little bit more about Pura, he has such a way with words, as we all know!
Ngā mihi,
MAKE sure your summer is not ruined by measles.

Our hearts go out to the people of Samoa where 32 people (mostly infants) have died from measles recently and many more have been hospitalised.
In New Zealand, there have been over 2000 cases of measles.

The influx of visitors to Gisborne for the summer and local people travelling to areas where measles are prevalent, means measles is still a risk for Tairāwhiti people.

Please check whether you and your whanau have had the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination.

If you are travelling from New Zealand to the Pacific Islands, and are under the age of 50, it is recommended that you get vaccinated. Children under the age of 15 who have never had the MMR vaccine, or have only received a single dose, should also get vaccinated.

You can find out more about the risk of measles and the importance of getting vaccinated on our website. Read more

Public Health Nurse Shannon Moloney (pictured here with her son Arlo) says, “I wouldn’t even consider taking Arlo to anywhere that has had a measles outbreak without making sure he was vaccinated. It is such a simple thing to do to give you peace of mind.”

"Seek the treasure you value most dearly. If you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain"🏔

This whakatauki is about aiming high or for what is truly valuable, but it's real message is to be persistent ..and don't let obstacles stop you from reaching your goal!👌🏽

We would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful whānau who have contributed their time and energy to provide amazing opportunities to our tamariki.

Without your help doing jobs like taking the recycling, participating in the cleaning rosters and of course helping us with our trips and fundraisers our Kindergartens would not thrive to the heights that they do. Without our fundraisers our children would have significantly less resources and the Kindergartens would have less chance to be enhanced and upgraded.

Our whānau and community are an important part of our Kindergartens as our children’s learning and development is so greatly strengthened when they can experience community building situations 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Many of our teachers across our kindergartens had a lot of fun and an enriching time together at their Noho at Ohako Marae. But they are missing all the children a whole lot! and they can't wait until tomorrow... The start of Term 3 😃

Thank you to all our super amazing teachers for all that you do! 💗

'Tupapa - Our Stand, Our Story' - telling stories from a Māori perspective

Today we made our way into the news 😃

'Tupapa - Our Stand, Our Story' - telling stories from a Māori perspective Following the overwhelming response to the graffiti on the statue of Captain Cook in Gisborne, we now take a look at the award-winning 'Tupapa - Our Stand....

In Māori tradition children were valued members of the Māori worlds before conception, before birth, and before time. They began their journey in Rangiātea, homeland of the gods. Born into this world, they were nurtured like a precious seed to ensure their survival and taught to understand their own importance.
Across all our kindergartens our vision is that children are competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.
Here we realize that each child is on a unique journey. They come into the world eager to learn and into family, whānau that have high hopes for them. All our teachers and kaiako in our kindergartens work together with the family to realize these hopes!

When playing in nature? 🐚

Children's senses are fully engaged, curiosity is nurtured, speech and language skills are enhanced, problem solving and emotional regulation come to the forefront and, the big one, children learn about their capabilities and limitations – all of which are important lifelong skills. 👣

Isn't is great that Paikea Kindergarten Gisborne still make it to the beach in winter? ⛄⛱🌞
