Our trust fund is a precious taonga and it is our duty to share it wisely to enhance the lives of all Tairawhiti people. Tatau = Tatau and the theme of sharing is central to our kaupapa and vision for the region of Te Mana - Shared Pride, Te Ihi - Shared Prosperity and Te Wehi - Shared Opportunity.
Today is Global Tourism Resilience Day! We're reflecting on how tourism in Tairāwhiti contributes to our region's wellbeing. From creating jobs to preserving our cultural heritage, sustainable tourism plays a vital role in our community. As the Regional Tourism Organisation, we're committed to developing Tairāwhiti not only as an enticing visitor destination for manuhiri but also to uplift our local economy and environment.

It's International Day of Clean Energy, and we're celebrating the resilience and innovation of our East Coast communities. We're excited to share that in Term 1, the $3.5 million investment in solar panels and battery storage at four East Coast schools will be fully operational. This project isn't just about heated pools - it's about building a sustainable future and enhancing local resilience.
This initiative will generate 400 kWh of clean energy and provide 10-14 days of backup power during emergencies. Additionally, the solar and battery storage systems will provide more than 100% of the schools' daily energy needs, so the schools have partnered with the retailer Our Energy to facilitate community-driven energy sharing.
The project covers Te Waha O Rerekohu School at Te Araroa, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Waiū o Ngāti Porou at Ruatoria, Hatea a Rangi School at Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay Area School & Kahukuranui.
Exciting news for our rangatahi! The Rua Bioscience Scholarship Programme is opening doors to rewarding career pathways. This initiative aligns with our He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora wellbeing framework, fostering growth and opportunity for our young people.

The Trust has approved up to $6.9 million for phase one of the Victoria Sports and Recreation Hub, marking the largest single investment ever made by the Trust. This phase will involve upgrading the netball courts at Victoria Domain, which will benefit multiple sports, including basketball, pickleball, and tennis. The project aims to enhance recreational opportunities for both current and future generations. Construction is set to begin in January 2025.

City Centre revitalisation public meeting
We're hosting a public meeting next week for the community to share their ideas and aspirations for Gisborne's city centre.
📆 Wednesday 11 December 2024, 5.30pm
📍 Tautua Village – Level 2, 100 Grey Street.
The meeting is one of several being held across various interest groups to discuss potential catalyst projects to improve Gisborne's city centre vitality. The session will cover what city centre vitality looks like for Gisborne and initiatives and actions that could help achieve that. The session's insights will inform a broader City Centre Revitalisation project led by Trust Tairāwhiti, Gisborne District Council and Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust.
We aim to select a short list of ideas to progress early next year.
Please RSVP with [email protected] by 9 December to ensure we have a great turnout. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Happy International Volunteer Day!
Today, we celebrate the incredible impact of volunteers in our communities. At Trust Tairāwhiti, we recently enjoyed giving back alongside amazing local groups, showcasing how every small act contributes to a greater cause.
Thank you to the Gisborne Volunteer Centre for connecting us with local groups that rely on volunteer support. Trust staff carried out w**d removal and landscaping at the East Coast Museum of Technology, made pēpi packs at The Nest Collective Gisborne, cleared blackberry on Tītīrangi with the Women's Native Tree Project Trust and made up Christmas trees for Habitat For Humanity Restore Gisborne.
If you can, take some time to support a local cause. Together, we can strengthen our community!

Come along and bring the whānau to Ilminster Intermediate from 8am on 8 December. If you can’t make it but want to support the Te Kani Nankivell whānau, here’s a link to a Givealittle page:
