Our rangatahi are making great use of the laser cutter for all their $50 challenges! Team Coastie Coasters are underway and they’re also creating more that just their products…they’ve gone into making their Coaster display racks too…they’re in full swing!

Thank you for all the feedback! The design continues and more features added 😎
Keep ‘em coming, your input is helping to kick our product off on the right path.
Rather than a “phone jail” our korero and wananga has made us lean towards more of a “waea whare” a retreat for our phones instead.
Then it’s somewhere we want to put our phones rather than the separation feel like a punishment 🤩🤳

Taiki e! Next Gen’s $50 Challenge – Solving Problems, Creating Solutions!

Rangatahi are stepping up to the challenge! As part of the $50 Challenge, our young innovators have been tasked with identifying real-world problems and creating market-ready solutions for the upcoming rangatahi market.

One issue we’ve noticed during our Next Gen sessions is the constant distraction of cell phones—rangatahi (and even some pakeke!) find it hard to disconnect. So, our young entrepreneurs designed a laser-cut wharenui (or iti) to “Tiaki” phones during wananga mode, keeping the focus on korero, learning, and connection.

Some are calling it a “Phone Jail”, but we like to think of it as a “Phone Retreat”—a place where your device can rest while you’re present in the moment.

Would you buy one?

We’re seeking validation—is this something that you, your whānau, kura, or workplace could use? What other uses can you think of?

Drop your whakaaro in the comments! And if you’re keen, come support our rangatahi at the Next Gen Rangatahi Market where these will be available. Let’s see where this idea can go!
