Aaaaaand that’s a wrap for Week 1 in our wee cabin 🥳🤩😍

There were definitely lots of random “pinch me!” moments exchanged amongst us this week. It feels so surreal to have such a wonderful opportunity coming to life. We are incredibly lucky to embark on this journey with our beautiful friend James from @treebrushapothecary and to have @countrylanequeenstown making us feel right at home.

Thanks for keeping up with our expanding adventure. We couldn’t have done it without your love and support! 💕

Now for a little pop quiz. We could fit ~ 600 books in our wee book van 🚐 How many books do you think we can fit on our new shelves?

When you’re writing a book, with people in it as opposed to animals, it is no good having people who are ordinary, because they are not going to interest your readers at all. Every writer in the world has to use the characters that have something interesting about them, and this is even more true in children’s books. - Roald Dahl

This photo is a throwback when we held our first ever Halloween story time in our book van! It made me so happy when I saw they hurdled up to discuss about the plot! - Natasya

Happy International Children’s Book Day ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

We’re back at Arrowtown Farmers Market this Sunday from 10 am - 2 pm 🤩

This is the paradox of historical knowledge. Knowledge that does not change behaviour is useless. But knowledge that changes behaviour loses its relevance. The more data we have and the better we understand history, the faster history alters its course, and the faster our knowledge becomes outdated. - Yuval Noah Harari in Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow.

It’s our first birthday and we wanted to share some highlights from our first year in business 🤎

We are thrilled (and can’t hardly believe) that Bright Ink is turning ONE this weekend!!

If you’re out and about on Saturday, stop by Country Lane where we’ll be parked up next to the Buzzstop!

From 11am-1pm we’d love to chat about all things business. If you’re thinking about starting one, have an existing one or just want to say hi, it would be great to see you.

The shop will be open from 10am-2pm to grab your weekend reads too!

Join our Happy Hour from 9-11am at Remarkables Market tomorrow Saturday 29th Jan to take 20% off your purchase!

Our featured author for this week is Anita Shreve. Anita worked as a high school teacher and journalist before pursuing career as a full-time fiction novelist.

Anita has written a total of 18 novels, which mostly explore the themes of adultery, jealousy, crimes of passion, incest, negligence, loss and guilt.

Her best-selling work includes The Weight of Water, which was shortlisted for the Orange prize, and The Pilot’s Wife, which was featured on Oprah’s Book Club (you know we love Oprah’s choices 😉)

“A person walks into a room and says hello, and your life takes a course for which you are not prepared. It's a tiny moment (almost-but not quite-unremarkable), the beginning of a hundred thousand tiny moments and some larger ones.”, Anita Shreve in Eden Close.

Anita Shreve passed away in 2018 from cancer.

We have some of Anita’s fine work in the book van for you to explore. You can find us this week at the following:
Friday @countrylanequeenstown (10am-2pm)
Saturday @remarkables_market (9am-2pm)
Sunday @arrowtownfarmersmarket (10am-2pm)

I am not Esther by Fleur Beale is a short tale that is at times heartbreaking and at others heartwarming. Kirby is a strong-willed girl who finds herself thrust into a world of family and social codes unknown to her.

There are themes of love, sorrow, courage and perseverance with subject matter of religion, cult and women’s stories.

This is a very quick read and is intended for Young Adult readers but can be enjoyed by regular adults (like Annie) too 😄

Have you read this New Zealand bestseller? If not, you can grab it from our shop!

‘A professor for over forty years, Jim Flynn was concerned when he saw that his students were reading less and less. He decided to compile a list of recommendations for them, which expanded to include two hundred titles that transport the reader into a magic realm of knowledge and imagination.’

The Torchlight List: Around the World in 200 Books by Jim Flynn is said to be the one that will inspire you to reread books you love, and to discover and relish many new ones. Check out this book on your next visit!

This copy is available in store

Look who visited us!

What a wonderful way to start our day at @arrowtownfarmersmarket! We had a lovely visit from none other than Caroline Barron herself, the author of Ripiro Beach: A Memoir of Life After Near Death, who won the New Zealand Heritage Literary Award in 2020. Goosebumps!

Thank you so much @carolinebarronauthor for supporting us! 🤩

Hey hey Happy New Year 🎈

We hope everyone had a splendid time celebrating the festivities! We certainly had a wonderful time re-opening our shop last Sunday at the @arrowtownfarmersmarket. Our books were quickly snatched from the shelves and display stands. Most of our new arrivals didn’t stay too long in the van either! Our customers have been so generous with their feedback. One of them quietly screamed “I’m so happy!” and thanked us repeatedly. Fun fact: the shelves in our van can fit roughly 600 books at a time so when we get comments such as “amazing collections” and “great selection”, it makes us proud to select titles for you 🙂

Come on and start the year with an affordable and sustainable choice for reading. Buy or gift secondhand books. We will be at our usual spots this week:
Thurs & Friday @ Buzzstop 10am-2pm
Saturday @ Remarkables Market 9am-2pm
Sunday @ Arrowtown Market 10am-2pm

If you’re on holiday in town, come and visit Queenstown’s only secondhand bookshop to get your summer reads on the road!
