Of course, they are not always right, and it is important to seek specialist advice to ensure the rules are applied correctly. - Julia

Below is a summary of the updated wage subsidy scheme from our tax law team.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson has confirmed that the wage subsidy scheme will continue nationwide for as long as Auckland remains at Alert Level 3. This is to recognise the effect of Auckland’s lockdown on the rest of the country.

The criteria for the latest wage subsidy extension are that a business must have had, or is predicting to have, a revenue drop due to COVID-19 of at least 40%. Additionally, the revenue drop applies for any consecutive period of at least 14 days within 12 August 2020 and 10 September 2020 when compared to last year.

Applications for this extension will be open by Friday, 21 August 2020.

Note that the Government has also removed the revenue drop test for the COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme, and extended the mortgage deferral scheme until 31 March 2021.
