This year, we kicked the year off with Páraluman by Alyssa Medel in January. Followed by the very first FOTP Auckland Festival in June!
We also launched the first FOTP National program this year! This initiative facilitated the beginnings of 7 homegrown Asian plays in Pōneke and Ōtautahi and one development reading of Pinay by Marianne Infante.
Overall showcasing 13 dedicated emerging and established playwrights, 60 passionate performers across the country, cleverly led by our directors.
FOTP also won a Wellington Theatre Awards, the Excellence Award for Innovative Contribution to the Industry and/or Community! Woohoo! 🥳
Two past FOTP plays — Scenes from a Yellow Peril by Nathan Joe and The First Prime Time Asian Sitcom by Nahyeon Lee— went on to have their first professional seasons this year at Auckland Theatre Company and Silo Theatre. And Basmati Bitch by Ankita Singh is to be produced in 2023!
Thank you to all of our generous supporters Creative New Zealand, Playmarket New Zealand, Foundation North, Basement Theatre, BATS Theatre, Little Andromeda. Our Wellington and Christchurch teams Cassandra Tse, Yugto Productions, Two Productions. 💖
