🐾 June Update

June had her medicated bath today and we are so proud of how far she has come. ❤️

She has now finished her course of antibiotics and is continuing to improve every single day. Her skin is healing, her comfort levels are improving, and her little personality is starting to shine through.

One thing we’ve discovered about June? She absolutely loves her coconut oil treatments. After her bath she sits quietly, eyes half closed, soaking up every bit of attention. When we think we’re finished, she gives us those big dreamy eyes that seem to say, “Please keep going…” 🥹

Our girl is quickly becoming quite the pamper princess, and honestly, after everything she has been through, she deserves every second of it.

Thank you for following June’s journey and cheering her on. Every like, comment, share, and donation helps us continue helping dogs like June get the care they need.

💛 Safe.
💛 Loved.
💛 Healing.

On Tuesday, this sweet little angel made her way to the right doorstep in search of help.

Thanks to one of our amazing supporters/fosters, she found her way to WAGS, where her journey to safety and care has now begun.

Their daughter and her friend quickly sprang into action, bringing the puppy into their home. She was fed, given a flea bath, and shown so much love in kind, caring arms.

They knew this precious girl needed urgent attention every bone could be felt as they held her.

To ensure her safety, and that of the other dogs at WAGS HQ, she was taken for a full health check. She was parvo tested and vaccinated to give her the best possible chance and reduce her vulnerability.

Our wonderful fosters kindly covered the vet costs of $207.30 (invoice attached in the comments 2 items were for our fosters own dog which we have blanked out).

We would love to reimburse their generosity, but with mounting vet bills, we’re reaching out for your support.

Donations are held in trust and can be made to:

✨ Sometimes the stars align exactly when they need to. ✨

This little darling arrived on the doorstep of the right person at exactly the right time.

A kind-hearted kuia heard crying last night but didn’t realise where it was coming from. The next morning, when she opened her front door, she found a tiny, frightened puppy curled up on her doorstep. Alone. Hungry. Scared.

Knowing she needed help, she reached out to one of our amazing supporters.

Thankfully, that call for help found its way to WAGS.

Baby girl has now been safely collected, vet checked, and is settling into care. She is terribly underweight and has clearly had a rough start to life, but she is now on a healthy feeding plan and surrounded by people who are determined to see her thrive.

We don’t know where she came from.
We don’t know how long she had been wandering.
We don’t know her past.

But what we do know is this:

She is no longer unknown.

🩷She is now known.
🩷She is now safe.
🩷She is now cared for.
🩷She now has a future.

Welcome to WAGS, baby girl. 💕

And can we just talk about those ears? They are simply too adorable.

A huge thank you to the wonderful kuia and to everyone who shared, called, messaged, and helped, and to our incredible WAGS community who continue to make stories like this possible.

If you would like to help support this sweet girl’s recovery and the many other dogs who find safety through WAGS, donations are always appreciated.

🙏 We Need Your Help 🙏

Over the past few months, we’ve been focused on doing what we always do helping dogs who have nowhere else to go.

While many of you see the happy adoption photos and success stories, behind the scenes there are vet appointments, rehabilitation, food bills, transport runs, and now a new challenge that will determine the future of WAGS Rescue NZ.

To continue operating and helping dogs in need, we are working through the resource consent process. This is a critical step in securing a long-term future for the rescue and the animals who depend on us.

So far, we have already paid:

🐾 $7,400+ in veterinary care this year alone

🐾 $2,875 for the acoustic report deposit required to begin the consent process

That’s over $10,000 invested directly into rescue work and securing the future of WAGS.

We don’t have corporate backing or large grants funding our day-to-day operations. We rely on a community of animal lovers who believe every dog deserves a second chance🩵🐾

Every dollar donated helps keep dogs safe, healthy, fed, and cared for while we navigate this process.

We don’t know the name of the next dog that will need us‼️

We only know they’re coming.

And when they do, we want to be able to say yes.

❤️ If you’ve supported us before, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Together, we can secure the future of WAGS Rescue NZ and continue giving vulnerable dogs the second chance they deserve.

🐾 Could You Be a WAGS Foster Hero? 🐾

Every dog that comes into rescue needs something slightly different. Some need a quiet place to rest and heal, some need adventure and exercise, and others simply need a couch, a warm bed, and someone to love them while they wait for their forever family.

We’re looking for caring foster homes to join the WAGS village.

🩵You don’t need to do it alone. We provide everything you need to set you up for success, including food, bedding, crates, and ongoing support from our team.

We simply want to find the right match for your home and lifestyle. Tell us what would suit you best:

🐾 Puppy, teenager, or adult dog
🐾 Male or female
🐾 Energetic adventure buddy or laid-back couch companion
🐾 Dog-friendly, cat-friendly, or suited to a home with children
🐾 A short-term foster or something a little longer

‼️For our West Auckland foster families, we also have weekday doggy daycare available for many dogs. You simply drop them off and pick them up, making fostering even more achievable for busy households ‼️

Fostering saves lives. Every foster home opens a space for another dog in need and gives them the chance to experience love, safety, and stability while they wait for their forever family.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time to put your hand up. Send us a message and let’s find the rescue dog that’s the perfect fit for your home. ❤️

💔Dear Supporters 💔

We always try to keep our page positive. We love sharing the happy endings, the recoveries, the adoptions, and the moments that remind us why rescue is worth every challenge.

Today is different.

This is a post that is incredibly hard to write, and we know it will be just as hard to read.

This week, WAGS welcomed a beautiful mumma dog and her two surviving puppies into our care.

Surviving is the important word here.

There were originally eleven puppies. Nine of them were inhumanely killed before help could reach them 🪽

Our hearts are broken 💔

We cannot begin to imagine the fear, trauma, and heartbreak this mumma dog has endured. Yet despite everything she has been through, she is gentle, loving, and devoted to the two babies she has left.

Thanks to the actions of people who stepped in, this little family is now safe.

Mumma and her puppies are currently in a secure and trusted WAGS foster home where they are receiving the care, comfort, and safety they deserve. For the first time in a long time, they can rest without fear.

While we grieve for the nine innocent lives that were lost, we will focus our energy on the lives we can still save.

🩵The two puppies curled up beside their mum now matter.
🩵Their future matters.
🩵And their mumma matters.

Please keep this little family in your thoughts as they begin their journey of healing. We will share updates when we can, but for now our focus is giving them the time, safety, and love they need.

🩷Now they are safe.
🩷Now they are loved.

And now they are part of the WAGS family. 🐾

Welcome to WAGS, sweet babes. Your new life starts now. 🩵🐾

June’s Journey ❤️

Three days ago, June was found wandering the streets of South Auckland during stormy weather.

Cold. Alone. Fighting severe mange, infection, fleas, and a heavy worm burden.

Since arriving in rescue, June has received:

🐾 Veterinary treatment
🐾 Antibiotics
🐾 Anti-itch medication
🐾 Flea treatment
🐾 Worming treatment
🐾 Special skin-support food
🐾 Medicated baths
🐾 Warm blankets and a safe place to rest

Today, some worms made their exit another reminder of just how much this little girl has been carrying.

Will she be healed in three days? No.

But healing doesn’t start with fur.

It starts with safety.

It starts with a full tummy.

It starts with being loved.

June is one of the reasons we are fighting so hard right now.

While caring for dogs like June, we are also working through the resource consent process needed to secure the future of our rescue and continue helping vulnerable dogs who have nowhere else to go.

If you would like to support June and help us through the consent process, donations are held in trust and can be made directly to:

Because of your kindness and generosity, we’ve already taken a huge first step, we’ve been able to put down the 50% deposit for our soundproofing. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. This means more than we can ever fully express.

But this journey is far from over. Every day, we’re reminded why this matters so much, why we have to keep going, no matter how hard it gets. These babies rely on us, and we will never stop fighting to give them the safe, peaceful environment they deserve.

For full transparency, we’ve attached the invoice and payment details below. Our next hurdle is raising the remaining $2,875 needed
to complete this critical step.

If you feel moved to help, we’ve created a Givealittle page where you can donate directly:

If you can’t donate, sharing our story could be the reason it reaches someone who can. Every share, every kind word, every bit of support brings us closer to making this safe haven a reality.

We’re doing everything we can, pouring our hearts, energy, and hope into this, and we’re so incredibly grateful to have you standing beside us.

Thank you for believing in us, and for being part of this fight 💛

🐾💙 THANK YOU PETSTOCK! 💙🐾

Today we received an incredible donation of damaged and end-of-line pet food from Petstock, and honestly, we are blown away.

What makes donations like this so special is that they don’t just help the dogs in WAGS Rescue NZ’s care they help animals right across our community.

Our own rescue dogs will have full bellies, but that’s only the beginning. Any food we cannot use ourselves will be shared with other rescues, foster carers, and community members who are doing it tough and trying their best to keep their beloved pets fed and cared for.

Every bag of food shared means one less rescue worrying about where their next meal is coming from. It means one less family facing the heartbreaking choice between feeding themselves and feeding their pet.

A huge thank you also goes to the amazing team who help make this possible. From the staff at Fliway who sort and prepare these pallets, to Anthony at Mulch King who help transport and store donations, you are all part of the village that keeps animals safe.

Together, this donation will help so many animals not just those in WAGS care, but many others across Auckland and beyond.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Petstock for believing that every animal matters. 🩵🐾
