The Heritage Trail is fully open again. Drainage work has been completed at the Charles Heaphy steps so the access to Lunn Ave by Melba Cafe is now open. Thanks once again to Ōrākei Local Board for continuing upgrades to our well-used Heritage Trail.

Heads up St Johns / Merton Road neighbours:

Auckland Transport has advised there’ll be road maintenance and improvement works happening on Merton Road (between Morrin Road and College Road).

· What’s happening: footpath, kerb & channel repairs, road resurfacing (new asphalt) and new line markings.
· Also coming: installation of cycle separators as part of the final stages of the Links to GI project (AT says timing/details will be confirmed closer to the start of that stage).
· Start date: Monday 4 May 2026.
· How long: staged works, up to 3 months (weather may delay start/finish).

Questions? Contact Auckland Transport on 09 355 3553 or email [email protected] (include reference “Merton Road”).

The Heritage Trail is open again at the Gollan Rd end and look at the big improvement. 😁 Many thanks to Ōrākei Local Board for listening to residents’ concerns and making this big safety improvement to our Heritage Trail. Work is still continuing at the other end so the construction barrier will be in place for a short while longer at the Melba end while problems affecting the Charles Heaphy steps are sorted.
