The Finesse team love a good coffee, so when the opportunity came up to support a sustainable coffee initiative with Tearfund in Vanuatu, we jumped at the chance. The Foundation supports initiatives based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals so this programme, was a natural fit, promoting sustainable agriculture with local coffee farmers. The programme works with the farming community to help improve yields, explore new techniques and understand ways to add value to their products for commercial markets and supports vulnerable families on Tanna Island.
The good news is, the team Mojo Coffee also work with the Tanna Island community to import the beans and roast it up to perfection in their Bold Blend. So weâve shared a bag of Mojo Bold Blend beans with each member of our team so they can share the sustainable love with their families this weekend.
To all the coffee drinkers out there ⌠Hereâs to brew!

I'm organising one on Saturday 3rd Sept, 7pm, Headingly Centre - Lower Queen St, to support Tearfund New Zealand's work with Ukrainian refugees in Poland. Winter's coming, and they need blankets and food.
I've got four tables left to fill. Wanna join the fun?
Either grab some friends and make up a table (up to 8 people) or just buy single tickets and I'll pop you on a table needing some more brain power :)
Of course, if you cant make it on the night and just want to make a wee donation to an important cause, well, that would be a great encouragement!
Here's the link to the Facebook Event page.

Of the 2,000,000+ refugees, that is the number of children who have fled Ukraine. These children have seen and experienced so much trauma and they are trying to make sense of it all. And so are we. We are trying to make sense of it all.
We appreciate our friends over at Tearfund New Zealand who put out a video "Where is God in Ukraine's Crisis?" We found it very helpful and we hope you do as well.

When a tropical storm damaged the Barrientos familyâs house, it was a devastating blow. They had just sold their pigs to make ends meet in the struggles of the Covid-19 crisis. They had no means of generating income, and no home to live in. However, Nicole, 9, and Leo, 6, were registered at their local Compassion centre. The centre stepped in to help the Barrientos family overcome their financial situation and build a new futureâthanks to a pair of pigs!
Balmore, the father of Nicole and Leo says, âAmid a crisis, God was so good to us. From the beginning, we always felt support from the centre. They responded at a time when we needed their help the most. God gave us two pigs through the centre, and now we have a farm with 16 pigs!â

Happy New Year! We hope you're having a relaxing break with your family and friends â¤ď¸

We recently met Jeslyn at a Compassion project in Indonesia - how adorable is she!
Jeslyn says, ''When I grow up I want to be a doctor so I can help other children. I love to sing and my favourite hobby is painting.''

Merry Christmas from all of us at Tearfund! â¤ď¸

It's time to celebrate a small church of 50 people in Whanganui!
Just recently, Elim Whanganui raised $4,705 for Tearfund's Modern Slavery partners at their auction night, how amazing is that?!
The church put on a Christmas dinner and were donated items to auction off.
One of the pastors at Elim Delwyn Bailey says, "All of the items were gift-wrapped, so they didn't know what they were bidding for. We auctioned off everything from a Christmas ham to an airfryer. It was a really fun night!"
"We wanted to do something a bit different this year to give back. I have a real heart for anti-trafficking and this fundraiser showed that our church have a real heart for it too."

In a letter to his sponsor, Nicolas from Ecuador shares about his familyâs Christmas traditions, and how grateful he is to be part of Compassionâs child sponsorship programme.
''Dear Sponsor,
Christmas has finally arrived! This Christmas is special because almost everything has returned to normal. I'm back to face-to-face classes at school and going to the Compassion centre every week.
At the centre, I learned that Christmas is a time to share the love that Jesus has given us; we should be thankful for all our blessings, and that God is always good.
Guess what? They gave me a Christmas present at church, which made me very happy because I really like receiving gifts. My friends at church received gifts too, and we played together. Sometimes, I stay up late playing with my new toy; I have so much fun. Thank you so much for making it possible.
In my house, we have already started to put up the decorations and Christmas lights; that is my favourite part of Christmas, seeing how all the houses in the community light up in colours at night.
On Christmas night, my mother prepares a delicious dinner. Although it is not much, she prepares chicken or guinea pig, with rice, french fries, and salad. We all eat together at night, and we hold hands and thank God for the food because He always provides for us.
My Sunday school teacher told us that the most important thing at this time is to remember the birth of our Saviour and that thanks to his love, we can all be saved. My teacher also taught me that this is a time of peace, love, harmony, and friendship. I can see all these qualities reflected in you and your love for your neighbour.
I thank God so much for your life and all your help and compassion toward my family and me. I ask Jesus to take care of you and never leave you, and that you can enjoy this Christmas season with all your family and loved ones. I will always be grateful for your kindness.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to say MERRY CHRISTMAS!
From Nicolas''

Hi, my name is Abdoulaye and I am 19 years old. When I was a baby, my parents sent me to Burkina Faso, West Africa to live with my grandmother. Since then, my grandmother has taken care of me.
As a child, I watched her raise chickens. I started to love the chicks and began to learn how to feed them. My grandmother gave me five chickens to start my own poultry farm.
A few months ago, Tearfundâs partner Compassion paid for me to participate in a livestock workshop. Thanks to this training, I have learned how to feed, vaccinate, and keep my chickens safe. At the end of the training, I received feeders, drinking utensils, and 50 chicks to start my poultry business. Now, I have a poultry farm of more than 60 chickens!
Having chickens is like owning a bank account for me because I can sell them and provide for the family, both food supplies and my personal needs. I purchased my first bicycle thanks to the income I made from selling chickens. The chickens also lay eggs which we can eat, increasing the quality and quantity of our diet.
When my grandmother is sick, I sell a chicken for about $16 NZD to buy her medicine. Life would have been more challenging for us without chickens. My grandmother is now in her 70s, and she is physically weak. I have a responsibility to take good care of her, just like she took good care of me.
My dream is to extend my poultry farm to raise more than a thousand chickens to increase my income. I want to be one of the greatest poultry farmers in Burkino Faso. I also want to train others on how to take better care of their livestock.
I thank Tearfundâs partner for the opportunity to learn poultry farming, it has been the greatest blessing to me and my grandmother.

A couple of weeks ago we visited our Farming and Enterprise partner, Nasituan, on Tanna Island, Vanuatu and we were excited about how local growers are being empowered.
Nasituan helps local farmers increase their incomes by growing coffee and vegetables and develop agri-tourism.
Our partner teaches local growers how to get the best out of their crops and improve their quality to supply markets. The next step was to help growers link to markets for what they produce.
Now, these growers can supply export-quality crops including coffee to places like Mojo, a New Zealand-based coffee roaster, cafĂŠ and wholesale supplier.
Just before the pandemic, Mojo staff were sent to Vanuatu to train the farmers on coffee roasting and give them barista training. Now, we are seeing the fruits of those efforts. While we were there, they started live trials serving coffee to the public and in the week after we left, they launched their container cafĂŠ!
We also got to see their very first vanilla harvest. Those beans will be sold to buyers and tourists in the coming months. With this extra income, local farmers can pay for school expenses so their children can receive an education. It also means there is something set aside for family emergencies like medical care.
Nasituan is part of the Safe, Aware, Free and Empowered programme (SAFE). Jointly funded by Tearfund and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the SAFE Programme is a five-year programme to ensure vulnerable households in the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Sri Lanka and Myanmar are protected from modern slavery and are economically self-sufficient.
