Chuck Joseph’s 2023 work of a tattooed lion, a souvenir Lion Bottle of King Frederick I of Sweden.
In 1731 King Frederick of Sweden was given a lion as a pet to be kept in a gilded cage. On its death a taxidermist never having seen a live lion mounted the lion weirdly and it looked a lot like this. Chuck says “I have imagined a souvenir bottle with the story of the lion’s capture and captivity tattooed like scrimshaw on his ceramic body - The Lion of the King”.
