After 27 years, Republic Home is closing.
This is not the post I ever imagined writing. But it is the one I need to write - honestly, and with a full heart.
New Zealand’s retail environment has changed beyond recognition. The furniture sector has been hit harder than most. Costs have soared. Margins have shrunk. Small businesses have been left without support from government or banks, while large, well-capitalised international players have been actively welcomed into our small market. The playing field is no longer level - and the impact on local, independent businesses like ours has been devastating.
We have fought hard. We are proud of how we fought. But we are choosing to close on our terms, with our integrity intact.
To every customer who walked through our doors over the last 27 years - thank you. You are the reason this business meant so much. You trusted us with your homes, and that trust meant everything.
Our closing down sale is now underway, a managed process running until late September, with 40-70% off everything in store. We are still honouring all orders, and a final container of new furniture arrives in late July.
