The Department of Industry has implemented the electronic system ( https://imis.doind.gov.np ) to approve foreign investment through the Automatic Route on 17/01/2081, inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies on the occasion of the Third Investment Summit.

The Nepal-China Business Summit, held in Beijing, China, on December 4, 2024, was a success in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The event was jointly organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Embassy of Nepal in China.
With the participation of 120 Chinese entrepreneurs, Mr. Manoj Paudel, Chair of FNCCI’s Investment and International Affairs Forum, presented on Nepal’s Trade and Investment Opportunities. He highlighted Nepal’s initiatives to improve the business and investment environment over the past years.
Mr. Paudel emphasized the active functioning of the FDI Helpdesk at FNCCI, which is dedicated to facilitating foreign investors in navigating Nepal’s investment landscape on behalf of the private sector. The amendment of eight investment laws, formation of the High-Level Economic Reform Commission, and the drafting of a Bilateral Investment Agreement, were also highlighted as milestones in Nepal’s investment scenario.
From humble beginnings to economic progress, Nepal has significantly improved its per capita income and achieved an impressive recent credit rating. He noted that opportunities abound in hydropower, tourism infrastructure, manufacturing, and services. Nepal’s abundant natural resources, youthful workforce, and strategic geographical position are key attractions for foreign investment.

SMEs are vital contributors to Nepal’s economy!

On 27th November, FNCCI with support from USAID T&C organised an SME training session on the topic “Business Model Canvas,” presented by the talented Saujanya Timalsina.
A total of 61 entrepreneurs learned about catering to their customers and techniques for branding and marketing their products.
Everyone seemed excited to apply these learnings to their businesses.

On 22nd November 2024, FNCCI, with the support of USAID, successfully completed its first policy dialogue on the topic “Boosting the Export of Nepalese Agro Products to India and Bangladesh: Opportunities, Challenges, and Solutions.”

During the event, entrepreneurs shared their firsthand experiences in production and export, while government representatives highlighted their efforts to strengthen Nepal’s export policies and ensure the effective implementation of laws. At the conclusion of the program, stakeholders pledged to collaborate to make Nepal’s agribusiness sector more systematic and competitive, aiming to increase the contribution of agriculture to the country’s GDP.

The Government of Nepal's Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Department of Industry, publishes a Monthly FDI Approval Report. In this post, we highlight the FDI approvals for Ashwin.

Below are the highlights for FDI approvals in Ashwin of FY 2081/82:

1. The first slide presents the FDI approvals through the Automatic Route (AR), general approval route, Share Purchase Agreement / Share Subscription Agreement (SPA/SSA), and Technology Transfer Agreement (TTA) approvals, with respective commitment amounts for the month of Ashwin.

2. The second slide displays a bar graph of proposed FDI industries by scale in Ashwin. There are 33 small industries and 1 medium industry proposed.

3. The third slide presents a pie chart of the proposed industries through the automatic route.

4. The fourth slide shows the repatriation amounts categorized as Royalty, Dividend, and Service Fee.

In total, 65 FDI approvals were granted in Ashwin of FY 2081/82.
