A small lodge in the Himalayas — now part of the world’s greatest places.
We’re incredibly honoured that Mountain Lodges of Nepal, Manang has been named one of the TIME 100 Greatest Places of 2026.
Designing and building in the Himalayas is never just about architecture. It is about working with the landscape, learning from local knowledge, and building in a way that respects both the mountains and the communities that call them home. Creating spaces that allow travellers to experience the mountains with humility and wonder. Every stone, every space, and every view was shaped through collaboration with local craftsmen and the rhythms of this remarkable place.
This recognition belongs to the people who built it, the community that sustains it, and the travellers who continue to walk these Himalayan paths with us.

Athilaya Lodge,
Chame, Manang, Nepal
2023
Athilaya, Chame takes references from Tibetan buddhism for both the architecture as well as the interior. On the outside the building takes elements from monasteries while on the inside graphical elements such as texts, colourful floral patterns and textiles fill the spaces. The enormous rock inside the reception/lobby area brings the surrounding nature inside (literally) and creates a beautiful dialogue between what is human made and pure nature in its unaltered state.

Shifting Realities, until 27th July 2024
Shifting realities explores how an experience of a particular place, culture, and event can be conceived as an important architectural instrument that starts to question how buildings and spaces are designed. It aims to shift the current paradigm of architectural thinking in Nepal and open new doors of what is possible in the industry while still being rooted in our story.
These six projects are interpretations of our experience of events, places and culture in a three-dimensional form. It is a form of storytelling through architecture. We believe that architecture should go beyond the walls and tell stories of its time and place, not only of the tragic and irreversible past but to tell something hopeful, something that has new possibilities in it.

Athilaya Lodge, Manang, completed 2023.
The main idea for this property was for the building to blend in with the surrounding landscape. The entire exterior is clad in stone from a nearby quarry. Over time the stone will patina and take the same character as the landscape. All the timber for the interiors are locally sourced pine wood. The architectural tectonics takes reference from traditional homes of the Manang valley.
