A formal complaint has been filed against members of a UML-affiliated ‘Youth Volunteers Force’ for allegedly assaulting journalist Arjun Kumar Acharya in Damak. The incident occurred during a door-to-door campaign linked to CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, when a dispute broke out between volunteers and locals. Acharya, who was recording the incident, was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals, sustaining injuries to his face, head, and body.

The complaint names five individuals, including Yuvraj Pathak, and demands legal action under charges of misconduct. It also alleges an attempted abduction and theft of personal belongings, including Acharya’s mobile phone and glasses. Police have confirmed that suspects have been identified and a search is underway. The incident has drawn strong reactions from media organizations, including the Federation of Nepali Journalists and Freedom Forum, who have called for immediate action and protection of press freedom.
