🧠 AI is under fire again and this time, it’s HR-related.

Last week, Workday was hit with a major lawsuit alleging that its AI-powered hiring tools may have led to discriminatory outcomes against minorities and older applicants.

And while the legal side is still unfolding, one thing is clear: automated hiring systems aren’t automatically fair.

It’s easy to get caught up in the "tech = progress" mindset. But AI can only be as good as the data and design choices behind it! đŸ€“

If we're not critically questioning who it’s built for, and how it makes decisions, you risk increasing bias instead of solving it.

At Normi, we’ve taken a different path from day one. 🚀

We believe skills come first. Not resumes, not university names and definitely not invisible AI scores.

âšĄïž Normi helps people make their actual capabilities visible, not just what school they went to
âšĄïž We support companies in creating clear, grounded job definitions, so they actually know what they’re hiring for.
âšĄïž And we track growth over time, so people aren’t frozen in place by a single moment of evaluation.

Over half of those currently unemployed in Rogaland have an immigrant background. 🔎

Among them, many Ukrainian refugees (freshly finished with introduction programs) are actively looking for work, motivated and ready to contribute.

At the same time, nearly 4,000 positions were advertised in Rogaland last June. đŸ’Œ

So why is it still so hard to match people to jobs? đŸ€š

This isn’t just about unemployment, it’s about untapped potential.

We’re witnessing a familiar gap: the talent is there, the jobs are there, but the bridges between them are too narrow, too rigid, or simply outdated. The result? People who are ready to build a new life here are left waiting on the sidelines.

What could we do differently?
đŸ› ïž Recognize and validate informal and international experience
🌍 Embrace hiring practices that value diverse paths to competence
🔍 Equip both employers and job seekers with tools to better understand and communicate skills

This isn’t just about “integration.”

It’s about inclusion, innovation, and the kind of Norway we want to build - one where opportunity meets people where they are.

We'd love to hear your thoughts.

How can we make the transition into the workforce more human, more flexible, and more future-ready?

Young people are doing “everything right.”:
📚 Earning degrees.
đŸ’Œ Gaining experience.
📹 Sending out applications.

And still, too many are stuck between education and meaningful employment.

A Financial Times article asks a hard question: Why are qualified graduates struggling to land relevant roles?

There are some patterns emerging:
❌ What’s taught ≠ What’s needed
❌ Employers can’t assess potential beyond the CV
❌ Roles are unclear, even from the inside

So
 how do we fix this?
âžĄïž What responsibility do companies have in clarifying what they need?
âžĄïž How can students and early-career professionals better understand where they stand?
âžĄïž Could better skill transparency on both sides close the gap?

At Normi, we’re thinking about this every day. But we don’t have all the answers!

We’re curious: what have you seen work?

🔧 Build roles around people (not the other way round)

In fast-growing teams, agility isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s everything!

Usually, we try to fit people into rigid job descriptions instead of asking:
💬 “What could this person achieve if we built around their strengths?”

The best leaders know that great talent doesn’t always arrive in neat, predefined boxes. Especially in startups and growing companies, some of your biggest breakthroughs will come from individuals who grow beyond their role.

👉 You can only build roles around people if you know what they’re capable of.
👉 You can only unlock potential if you’re tracking real, evolving skills (not just job titles)

Normi can help teams map out the skills they have, the skills they need, and the clarity to grow from within.

📌 What if your next strategic move wasn’t to hire externally, but to reimagine a role based on someone already on your team?

Let’s make roles more human, more flexible, and more forward-thinking.
Let’s build around people. 💡

There’s been endless noise around how difficult, lazy, or disengaged Gen Z is in the workplace. 😬

But maybe it’s time we stop generalizing an entire generation and start looking at what they actually value!

🚀 Gen Z isn’t difficult. They just want clarity.
🚀 They’re not lazy. They just don’t see the point of doing work that doesn’t align with their skills or growth.
🚀 And no they’re not job-hoppers by default. They’re just less afraid to leave workplaces that don’t recognize their potential.

At Normi, we believe it’s time to move toward a more dynamic, skills-first way of thinking about work. One where people are matched to opportunities based on what they can do and where they’re going, not just where they’ve been.

It’s not about managing Gen Z better. 🔎
It’s about building work cultures where everyone can grow.

Did you know that we have standards for skills and roles?

That’s where skill taxonomies come in - frameworks that organize and classify skills to help recruiters and individuals. 🚀

Basically, they help companies match the right talent to the right roles and provide individuals with a clear view of their strengths and growth areas.

Some well-known skill taxonomies include:
đŸ”· ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations)
đŸ”· O*NET (U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Information Network)
đŸ”· SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age)

While these taxonomies have provided structure and clarity, they often fall short in a fast-paced, dynamic workforce. They can be static, one-size-fits-all solutions, which don’t always align with the unique needs of individuals or businesses.

Normi is a platform that combines LLMs with skill taxonomies to offer a more personalized and dynamic approach to skill mapping. 🔎

Our approach is simple: tell us about your experiences and we’ll find your skills!

This allows for deeper insights into individual skills and more accurate job matching, all while providing a clearer roadmap for personal and professional development.

This is just the beginning of how we’re transforming the way we think about skills and hiring. 🧠

At Normi, we know that people are at the core of every thriving business.

One great hire can elevate an entire team. But one misstep? That can ripple through culture, productivity, and even your bottom line.

According to recent insights on The Hidden Cost of Hiring the Wrong Talent, the consequences go far beyond just the cost of replacing someone (which can range from 30–150% of their salary 😳).

We're talking about disrupted team dynamics, cultural misalignment, missed targets, and even reputational risk.

So how do we avoid this?
✅ Ensure roles are defined based on the skills required, so expectations are crystal clear from the start.
✅ Focus on the candidate's actual skills and how they align with your team’s needs.
✅ Craft job descriptions that accurately reflect required skills, ensuring better candidate fit from day one.

Because at the end of the day, hiring isn’t about filling a vacancy – it’s about building a team that thrives together. đŸŒ±

🚀 More companies are shifting towards skills-based hiring, and the data proves it: 72% of hiring professionals now use skills assessments to evaluate candidates, according to HireVue. đŸ€“

Why? Because CVs tell us where you’ve been, but not what you can do.

Instead of focusing only on job titles and degrees, companies are looking at: 1. Problem-solving abilities 🔹
2. Real-world skills and experience
3. Adaptability and willingness to learn

At Normi, we believe everyone’s skills should be seen and valued, no matter their background.

That’s why we built Normi Journey, a way for individuals to track, showcase, and grow their skills over time, beyond just listing past job titles. 🔎

The shift is happening, and we’re excited to be part of it.
