Four ABU graduates bag First Class Honours at Nigerian Law School

Four graduates of the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University have bagged First Class Honours at the recently concluded Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School.

The students are Onu Goodness Eyinehi, Zubairu Umar Farouq, Nwafor Thelma Nkechi, and Ibrahim Fatika.

It is a thing of joy for the Faculty and ABU at large to have its graduates attain such a remarkable achievement.

The academic feat reflects not only their individual brilliance, discipline, and resilience, but also the strong academic foundation and culture of excellence nurtured at Ahmadu Bello University.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, praised the graduates for the outstanding performance.

Prof Ahmed also praised all other graduates from the Faculty that have passed the Bar exams with various grades.

The Vice-Chancellor described the academic accomplishment as a "proud moment for the university and reflection of its continued commitment to academic excellence".

Ahmed urged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of the university in all their future endeavours.

Celebrating the graduates, the Dean of Law, Prof Salim B Magashi, commended them for their dedication and discipline to achieve such a remarkable feat.

The success, according to him, reflected the strength of the Faculty's academic training and mentorship.

He said attaining a First Class at the Nigerian Law School is a "highly demanding and competitive achievement".

"It requires sustained intellectual rigor, clarity of thought, and an exceptional grasp of both substantive and procedural law.

"These graduates have demonstrated these qualities in full measure, emerging among the very best in the country", he said.

He also said the success stands as a source of pride to the Faculty, inspiration to the current students, and a clear reflection of the enduring legacy of ABU law in producing legal minds of the highest calibre.

Prof Magashi also said the Faculty looks forward to their future contributions to the legal profession, the judiciary, academia, and public service in Nigeria and beyond.

The Dean, however, expressed hopes that those who were unable to pass the Bar exams at this attempt would make it in due course.

PROF. O. S. ABEJIDE IS NO MORE.

It is with profound grief, deep sense of loss, and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that I, on behalf of the Faculty of Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, Professor Olugbwnga Samuel Abejide, today, Thursday 23rd April, 2026.

Professor Abejide was a distinguished scholar of Civil Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Within this prestigious academic environment, Prof. Abejide stood out as a man of intellect and uncommon dedication to the advancement of engineering education.

As a teacher, he embodied the true ideals of scholarship-rigorous, methodical, and deeply committed to the intellectual growth of his students. He contributed meaningfully to the strengthening of Civil Engineering education.
His lectures were not merely academic exercises but platforms of inspiration where young engineers were moulded with both technical competence and ethical consciousness.

In the sphere of research and scholarship, Professor Abejide distinguished himself through his commitment to knowledge creation and dissemination. His work reflected the enduring values of engineering scholarship-precision, innovation, and service to society. He belonged to that rare class of academics whose intellectual footprints transcend the classroom and resonate in professional practice, mentorship, and institutional growth.

Administratively, Professor Abejide was a dependable pillar within the Department of Civil Engineering and the wider Faculty of Engineering. He served with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility, contributing to the stability and progress of the academic system. His quiet strength, collegial spirit, and unwavering commitment to duty made him a trusted colleague and a respected figure among peers and students alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Prof. Abejide will be remembered for his humility, warmth, and humane disposition. He was a gentleman-scholar-approachable, principled, and deeply devoted to the collective good of the University community.

His passing is not only a loss to the Department of Civil Engineering but a monumental loss to the entire Faculty of Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, and indeed the Nigerian engineering academic community at large.

On behalf of the Faculty, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, students, and all those whose lives he touched.

May we all find the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

WHEN GOD REWRITES THE STORY

I almost didn’t post this. But if this encourages just one person, it’s worth it.

Throughout my schooling years, God was faithful to me. In my family, I was often called the guru of the house. But in SS3, everything changed. I recorded the worst academic performance of my life. It felt like a fall from grace.
I applied for Electrical Engineering through JAMB, but my score was low, and I had D7 in Physics and Chemistry in both WAEC and NECO. I felt like a failure, and my confidence dropped.

My parents encouraged me to write the external NECO, while trusting God. By His grace, I still got admission into ABU, Zaria, but screening was manual. I queued from 5 a.m. till almost 12 noon, only to be told I didn’t meet the requirements. I was so heartbroken.

I was reshuffled to the Department of Statistics, but I wasn’t accepted there either.
For one full month, I stayed in Zaria without a department. Every day, I watched others attend lectures while I had nowhere to belong. I prayed daily. Sometimes, I stayed late in church, helping others with registration while mine remained unresolved.

My parents asked me to come home and rewrite JAMB, but I refused. I stayed back, trusting God to see me through, even when I didn’t know how.
And God came through.
I eventually got my admission into the Department of Mathematics. I resumed late. I missed attendance. I missed practicals. Mathematics isn’t a small course, many people would have given up.
But by God’s grace, I bounced back.

My four-year program became six years, yet God carried me through by His mercies. Through every delay and limitation, His grace was sufficient.
By God’s grace, I graduated with a Distinction — a First Class Honours in Mathematics, among the best in my department.

I sincerely appreciate my family for their prayers and support, and the wonderful people God brought my way throughout this journey.

Indeed when God is involved, He makes the end sweeter than the beginning.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ULTIMATE ABUSITE!

Few stories capture the spirit, legacy, and continuity of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as vividly as the journey of Professor Aisha Mahmoud Hamman, one of the pioneering female Professors of Accounting at the university.

She hails from the distinguished Hamman family, a family that occupies a unique place in ABU’s history as the first family to produce three professors within the university system.

Her father, Professor Mahmoud Hamman, was a renowned historian, former Commissioner, former Director of Arewa House, and a pioneer of key social and market institutions within ABU.

Her mother, Professor Khadija Mahmoud, is a respected Educational Psychologist and a passionate advocate for inclusive education, gender equity, and child development.

Her brother, Dr. Yusuf Mahmoud, is a Political Scientist who followed the same ABU academic path through to the PhD level.
Reflecting on her journey, Professor Aisha captures the depth of this bond perfectly:

“ABU raised me, and ABU made me. From my first day in crèche at Kongo Campus, to ABU Staff School, and to my final day as a doctoral student, every step of my journey was shaped within this great institution.”

Her story is not just one of personal achievement, but of institutional loyalty, academic excellence, and generational impact—a true testament to what ABU stands for.

Once again, congratulations to a full-blood ABUSITE whose life and career embody the soul of Ahmadu Bello University.
