In a major move aimed at ensuring even and balanced development across the state, I performed the groundbreaking for two strategic road projects: the Durum–Kuruntumawa road in Makarfi LG, and the Hunkuyi–Unguwan Rimi–Basawa road linking Kudan LG and Sabon Gari LG.

Makarfi and Kudan Local Governments are among 12 local government areas in Kaduna State that have not benefited 1KM of road project in the past 12years. This is unacceptable. These groundbreaking ceremonies are therefore part of our administration’s conscious and deliberate efforts to ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of infrastructure projects. The two roads are pathways to opportunity, and symbols of our shared determination to build a better Kaduna State.

On assumption of office on May 29, 2023, I pledged to take development to every village and community. Central to that promise is road construction. Well-built roads are the backbone of economic activity. They connect people to markets, children to schools, patients to health centres, and farmers to prosperity.

Makarfi and Kudan Local Governments are major farming hubs producing maize, sugarcane, tomatoes, soybeans, and grapes. With agriculture contributing 42% of Kaduna’s GDP, these roads will directly boost productivity, improve farmer incomes, and strengthen our state’s economy. They will also reduce post-harvest losses, improve access to services, and uplift the lives of rural families.

These projects form part of our broader state-wide efforts. In the first phase, we performed the groundbreaking for the construction of 85 roads totalling 785km, of which 44 are completed and the rest are nearing completion. In the second phase, we added over 50 roads and bridges covering 550km. With today’s groundbreaking ceremonies, we are ramping up rural our transformation drive aimed at connecting every corner of Kaduna State, creating jobs, and unlock prosperity for our people.
