ECARD ALERT:
OANDO Spill In Azuzuama Environment, Despite Three Visits To Spill Site, Cause Of Spill Yet To Be Officially Pronounced.
From all indications the current oil spill along Oando pipeline in Azuzuama community environment is the first since the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) divested to Oando. Azuzuama is in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state.
Sadly, over two weeks since the Oil spill occurred and three official visits to the spill site by Oando, regulators and community representatives, including surveillance contractors; actual cause of spill is yet to has not been pronounced after excavation and section of interest exposed and examined; though community folks noted that it occurred as a result of equipment failure.
Another underwater spill is also suspected away from this point of reference.
The Environmental Conservation Agriculture and Rural Development (ECARD), has been reliably informed by community leaders; the CDC Chairman and Vice Chairman; Pere Angasei and Uyabara that while the community is patiently waiting for Oando and regulators to return to site and acertain cause of spill, they are not comfortable with the back and forth even as the spill spreads in the mangrove swamp affecting the environment negatively.
More details coming as full report later.
