The Self Help and Rural Development Association (SHERDA) is a non political, tax exempt, non profit development organisation dedicated to helping the poor (especially in rural areas) in need of Economic Empowerment, Human Capital Development, Health Care, Basic Education, Functional Literacy, Capacity Building Programmes, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education, Small-scale Enterprise, Sustainable Agricultu
re, Environmental Conservation and Protection, Environmental / Social Impact Assessment and other basic needs. SHERDA was formed by a group of Nigerian social and development workers and other professionals in 2000 and the Association was duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria as a Non Governmental Organization on December 24, 2004. The Association is presently headquartered in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria with branch offices in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria; Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria and a host of field offices. Our highest decision making organ is a 5-member Board of Trustees made up of professionals of diverse background, 3 of whom are men and the remaining 2 are women. The purpose of SHERDA is to improve family welfare, reduce poverty, promote sustainable social and economic development of the communities and enhance earning potentials in the rural communities without any adverse effect on the environment in which people live and on which they depend for their livelihoods
