Just saw the news about Alex Ekubo.
Alex Ekubo, the Nollywood actor, passed away on May 11, 2026 at 40 after a private battle with stage 4 liver cancer.

He died at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos. According to filmmaker Stanley Ontop, Alex was diagnosed in 2024, had a liver transplant, briefly returned to work, but complications from liver failure led to his passing.

Born April 10, 1986 in Port Harcourt, Alex first got noticed as 1st runner-up in Mr Nigeria 2010. He became one of Nollywood’s recognizable faces through films like Weekend Getaway The Bling Lagosians , Almajiri, and Devil in Agbada.

Most people outside Nigeria know him from Yemi Alade’s “Johnny” video. In 2020 the UN named him one of the “Most Influential People of African Descent under 40” for his work in entertainment and social development.

Colleagues are sharing tributes that paint him as kind, loyal, and full of charisma. Funke Akindele wrote: “I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex”. Richard Mofe-Damijo said: “You came, you saw, and you conquered. We are proud of the life you lived”.

Fans have also resurfaced an old video where he joked about being in heaven, with comments like “We love you, but God loves you more. Rest on Champ”.

He had been off social media since December 2024, which is why the news hit hard.

Rip Champ !! 😭😭
Heaven gained! An Angel

Amanda was only 24 when life humbled her.
Every morning, she stood by the roadside selling roasted corn under the hot sun while her mates posted vacation pictures online. Some people mocked her quietly.
“University graduate selling corn?” they laughed.

But Amanda never stopped smiling.
One rainy evening, a black SUV stopped in front of her stand. A man in his late 50s rolled down the window and bought all her corn. Before leaving, he asked:
“Why are you still smiling despite this struggle?”
Amanda replied softly:“Because I promised my late mother I would never give up.”
The man looked at her for a few seconds and drove away.

Three days later, Amanda received a call she almost ignored.
The same man owned a food processing company. He had secretly watched her for weeks and was touched by her attitude. He offered her a job in his company.
Today, Amanda manages over 40 staff members.

The same people who laughed at her now call her “boss lady.”
Never mock humble beginnings.
Sometimes, the person struggling today is preparing for a future bigger than you can imagine.

A girl once told her boyfriend,“I believe in your future.”

She stayed when he had nothing.
Years later after he became successful, he married someone else.

Some pain doesn’t leave you. It teaches you.

A young man entered a restaurant with only $5 left in his account.

He ordered the cheapest food and sat quietly in the corner checking job rejection emails on his phone.

An older man noticed him and asked,“Bad day?”
The boy smiled painfully and said,“Bad year.”

The man laughed softly, dropped his business card on the table and said:
“Show up tomorrow by 8 AM. Sometimes life changes because one person decided to notice your struggle.”

Never mock people going through hard times. You may be watching the beginning of their success story.
