Yesterday, I proudly joined other dignitaries and Akwa Ibomites at the opening ceremony of the 2026 edition of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival at the Uyo Township Stadium.

It was a beautiful sight to watch contingents from the 31 Local Government Areas of the State, adorned in colourful sportswear, march proudly one after another.

I commended the Government of Akwa Ibom State, led by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for its continued attention to sports development. Events such as the State Sports Festival provide valuable opportunities for grassroots talent discovery, youth engagement, and the promotion of social and cultural unity. They also contribute to the development of our beloved State through the nurturing of sporting talents.

I encouraged all competitors to play according to the rules of their respective games. I also urged my constituents, the Nsit Atai contingent not to rest on the laurels of their impressive performance in the last edition, but to aim higher, surpass their previous records, and return home with even greater laurels.

I wished all the participating contingents a successful and memorable festival.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining my constituents, Mr. and Mrs. Iniobong John Samuel, at the dedication service of their son, Master Wealth Imo Iniobong, at the United Evangelical Church, Four Towns, Uyo.

At the service, I admonished parents to contribute to building a better society through the proper upbringing of their children, stressing that a disciplined child is more likely to grow into a responsible and productive citizen.

I later joined our Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, other dignitaries, and fellow Akwa Ibomites at a special interdenominational service held at the International Christian Worship Center, Uyo, to mark the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State.

As an Akwa Ibomite, I am proud of the strides our state has made over the years. God has been kind to us and has blessed us with leaders who have continued to prioritise the development and wellbeing of our people. In the comity of states in our country, Akwa Ibom continues to stand out in progress and development.

Looking into the future, there are strong indications that every Akwa Ibom son and daughter will continue to have reasons to be proud of our dear state.

Happy Birthday To My Supportive Predecessor!

‎A HEARTFELT APPRECIATION
‎
‎By convention, I ought to have penned this heartfelt appreciation yesterday, a day after the unexpected outpouring of love and goodwill from far and near, but I was simply overwhelmed.
‎
‎I never imagined that my birthday would attract such a remarkable gathering of people. I was deeply humbled to see my constituents, friends, leaders, colleagues, and admirers troop into my residence to celebrate me.
‎
‎This year, I had no plans for a loud birthday celebration. In fact, I had intended to spend the day quietly. That was why, in the morning of August 1, I accepted the invitation of our leader, Rt. Hon. Elder Mark Esset, to join him at his residence for a meeting with critical stakeholders of our constituency youths. Before the meeting commenced, I was pleasantly surprised to be celebrated by the youths. Earlier that morning, I had also welcomed some of our councillors and supervisors who came bearing gifts and goodwill.

‎After the meeting, I thought the day had come to an end. But to my greatest surprise, my constituents, friends, political associates, and admirers began arriving at my residence, one after another, simply to celebrate and share in my joy.
‎
‎Among the distinguished personalities who honoured me with their presence were our political leader, Rt. Hon. Elder Mark Esset; the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Lady Emem Ibanga; the CEO of Eminence Oil and Petroleum, Obong Emmanuel Okon; the Honourable Member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Hon. Pastor Ubong Attah; the Honourable Member representing Oron and Udung Uko State Constituency, Chief Mrs. Kenim Onofiok; and many other distinguished leaders, friends, constituents, and well wishers.

‎As I have said, I made no plans for this celebration. What continues to amaze and humble me is how people, without any prior arrangement or expectation, came together to make the day memorable. I made no provision for a celebration, yet people provided more than enough to eat, drink, and celebrate into the late hours of the night. This remains a beautiful mystery and a profound reminder of the goodness that exists in people.

‎In our society, people often look up to leaders and politicians. But on my birthday, I found myself looking up to the people, and they voluntarily rose to the occasion in ways that exceeded my expectations.
‎
‎Your love humbled me. Your presence encouraged me and your kindness reminded me that leadership is not only about serving people; it is also about the bonds of love, trust, and shared humanity that we build with them.
‎
‎To everyone who celebrated me, whether through your physical presence, phone calls, text messages, Facebook posts, prayers, gifts, or kind words, I am deeply grateful. Every gesture, no matter how big or small, touched my heart and made my birthday truly special.
‎
‎You have taught me once again that, in this journey of life and leadership, no one stands alone. We live, grow, and succeed through the support, love, and genuine concern of others.
‎
‎From the depth of my heart, I say thank you.
‎
‎May God bless you all abundantly, reward your kindness, and grant you every desire of your heart.

The greatest gift of life is not merely to live, but to live in good health. Today, I celebrate the blessing of another year.

My senior colleague, Member Representing Mbo State Constituency and Chief Whip of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sir Effiong Johnson, is a year old. On behalf of the people of Nsit Atai State Constituency, I celebrate and wish him good health and more years in service to humanity.

Yesterday, alongside my wife, I joined the Speaker, the Leadership, my distinguished colleagues, and the staff of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to commemorate the third anniversary of our 8th Assembly.

The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Service at Immanuel Methodist Cathedral, Itiam Etoi, and was followed by a reception and luncheon at Ceedapeg Hotel, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.

With the theme, "The 8th Assembly @3: Stewardship, Service and Legislative Impact," the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on our journey of service to Akwa Ibom State and its people, while expressing our profound gratitude to God for His abundant grace, guidance, and faithfulness over the past three years.

We remain especially thankful to God for preserving all 26 Members who inaugurated the 8th Assembly, keeping us united, healthy, and steadfast in our collective commitment to delivering purposeful legislation, effective representation, and quality service to the people of Akwa Ibom State.

As we continue this legislative journey, I reaffirm my commitment to providing responsive representation and working diligently for the peace, progress, and sustainable development of Nsit Atai State Constituency and Akwa Ibom State at large.

To God alone be all the glory.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE TAKES A MAJOR STEP FORWARD IN AKWA IBOM

Today, I presented the report of the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Right and Public Petitions on the Bill to establish the Office of the Public Defender, and I am pleased that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed the Bill.

The proposed law will provide free legal aid and public defence services to indigent and vulnerable persons, ensuring that every resident, regardless of financial status, has access to justice and the protection of their constitutional rights.

I appreciate my distinguished colleagues for their support and commend all stakeholders whose valuable contributions during the public hearing enriched the Bill. I now look forward to the assent of His Excellency, Governor Pastor Umo Eno, to bring this important legislation into effect.
