TEMPTATION

The temptation of Jesus, as told in the Gospels,
remains one of the most arresting messages in all of Scripture to me.
As a young and growing believer,
I often wondered how anyone could walk faithfully
through a world so saturated with sin.
The answer was not found in theory,
but in a Person.
We look to the One who had no sin,
knew no sin,
committed no sin—
yet stood victorious over every temptation set before Him.
If anyone knew the way through the wilderness,
it was the sinless Son.
And from that sacred encounter, a few truths rise to the surface.

We are tempted along the lines of our own inclinations.
As James reminds us, temptation is never foreign;
it is drawn from what already stirs within us.
The enemy does not test at random—
he studies, he waits, he fashions his offers
to match the fractures of our desires.

In Matthew 4, every temptation Jesus faced
was an appeal to ego and power,
and they came immediately after the Jordan—
after affirmation, after anointing.

Turn stones to bread—
use your power.
Leap from the heights—
display your power.
Take the riches of the world—
seize power.

Unrestrained ambition will bow to at least one of these altars.

Yet what is most striking is not the temptation itself,
but the response of the Lord.
Jesus did not rely on sheer willpower
or a stubborn resolve not to sin.
Where desire exists, determination alone is never enough.
Instead, He leaned entirely on God.

In every response, Jesus pointed beyond Himself.
Even as the tempter addressed Him directly—
“If you are the Son…”—
Jesus answered by invoking God.
He had already discerned the hidden snare of the temptation:
self.
And in doing so, He revealed the only true escape—
God.
Every Scripture Jesus quoted came from Deuteronomy 8,
a chapter born in Israel’s wilderness,
where God confronted their cravings,
their hungers,
their misplaced trusts.
The wilderness tests were never meant to destroy them,
but to teach them dependence—
that man does not live by bread

🔘I just told you that God holds you responsible for your thoughts.

📖Jeremiah 17:9 says,
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaPwKR2AzNbnThhL3j38

🔘Until a man is born again, this is the description of the state of his inward man. No wonder Jesus said you must be born again, because the natural man’s heart is desperately wicked.

📖Isaiah 55:7 also says,
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

🔘These all show that God holds every man, even the unrighteous and unsaved, responsible for his thoughts.

🔘What then should the unrighteous do about his state, since, according to Jeremiah 17:9 and Genesis 6:5-6, his heart is desperately wicked and his thoughts are only evil continually?

📖Jesus gives us the answer in John 3:3.

🔘He says he must be re-created; he must be born again and receive a new nature and a new heart.

🔘But the question of his negative, evil thoughts still remains, even after he instantly receives a new heart by the miracle of salvation.

🔘And God still holds him responsible for his thoughts, in spite of his new nature.

🔘That’s why Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

🔘In other words, change your way of thinking.

🔘The Lord holds you responsible for your thoughts, and He expects you to change your way of thinking to conform with His Word.

_One of the things you must deliberately eliminate from your life is godless jesting. God wants you to use your mouth rightly — and this is very important._

The excellence of your life begins and ends with your speech.

Your life does not rise above the level of your words.🗣️
