I used to argue that baby swapping in hospitals was impossible until I almost became a victim during my first delivery. I registered in both a private and a general hospital. The private hospital was my main plan, but I picked the general one for antenatal because I loved those songs and lectures I used to see online and wanted to experience them too. Me and hubby already agreed not to check the gender before birth, and during scans, I made sure they didnβt reveal it.
The day labour started, hubby took me to the private hospital. At 8cm, the doctor asked for something we forgot, so hubby rushed home. Before he returned, I was fully dilated and taken into the labour room. In less than 10 minutes, my baby came out even though it felt like forever because I was getting weak.
As soon as he came out, a nurse picked him up to clean. I quickly told her to place him on my chest first ( I read that it helps create a bond between mother and baby) She turned him to me, and immediately my eyes went to his private part. I saw his little pΒ£n!s and knew it was a boy.
She took him away, and I delivered the placenta. I was still being sutured when hubby returned. They cleaned me up and moved me to the ward.
About 20 minutes later, that same nurse walked in with a baby dressed in one of the clothes I brought and placed her in my hands to breastfeed. Immediately, something felt off. I told her, βThis is a girl. I gave birth to a boy.β Plus, the baby looked too calm and relaxed for someone I pushed out just 30 minutes ago.
The nurse snapped, βShut up, shut up, donβt shout here. Theyβll bring your baby,β and took the baby out angrily. I told hubby to follow her because I couldnβt walk properly due to the pain.
Two minutes later, they came back with another baby who was crying. The moment I saw him, I knew he was mine.
Hubby confronted the doctor and nurses, but they managed to calm him down. Before I was discharged, we heard that a woman had given birth to a girl that morning before I gave birth in the evening. Her husband had warned her not to come home if it was a girl again because they already had five daughters, so the nurses allegedly planned to swap any boy that came in next.
They apologized endlessly and discharged me the next day. Iβm so grateful I asked for skin-to-skin contact. If not, I may not have known my baby was switched. And in this DNA era, how would I have even cleared myself? Mrs Meda

James: "At the moment Iβm close to my best. I didnβt expect to play CB, itβs one of the positions Iβve never played before, I had to adapt and play the best football I could.
Thereβs always extra fire when weβre playing against one of the bigger teams. From minute one the stadium and the team were fired up.Weβre hungry to win. We felt the game was there for us."
