*PROSTATE ENLARGEMENT*
Diagnosable through a Medical Test.
*WHAT IS PROSTATE ENLARGEMENT*
The prostate is a gland that produces some of the fluid that carries s***m during ej*******on. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body.
An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older.
An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is not cancer, and it does not raise your risk for prostate cancer.
*CAUSES*
Although the exact cause of prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) is unknown, here are possible causes;
*Ageing:* Men from 40 years and above are prone
*Hormonal Changes:* particularly the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on prostate cells.
*Family History:* Increases your risk.
*Lifestyle:* Some studies suggest that obesity and lack of physical activity may be associated with BPH.
*Diabetes and Heart Disease:* These conditions may also increase the risk of BPH.
*Medications:* Certain medications, such as pseudoephedrine, anticholinergics, and calcium channel blockers, may worsen symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
*Prostatitis:*
Inflammation or infection of the prostate gland (prostatitis) can cause temporary enlargement.
*Urinary Obstruction:*
Obstruction of the urinary tract by stones or cancer can lead to the enlargement of the prostate.
With this condition, the urinary stream may be weak or stop and start. In some cases, it can lead to infection, bladder stones and reduced kidney function.
*SYMPTOMS*
Dribbling after urination
Excessive urination at night
Frequent urination
Sense of incomplete bladder emptying
Leaking or weak urinary stream
Incontinence or sexual dysfunction
The urinary stream is often weak or stop and start.
In some cases, it can lead to infection, bladder stones and reduced kidney function.
One thing that makes this condition deadly is the complications it often brings. Infections and kidney distention are common of such complications
