A police officer stopped a pastor for speeding. Alarmed, the pastor protested loudly:
“I am a pastor of a church, not a thief!”

The officer calmly replied, “If you are truly a pastor, then surely you have a Bible in your car. Bring it.”

Eager to prove his innocence, the pastor quickly produced his Bible. The officer then said, “Good. Now read Matthew 5:25–26 aloud.”

The pastor opened to the passage and read:
“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”

Stunned by the scripture’s relevance, the pastor quietly offered the officer five hundred shillings. The officer accepted and declared:
“Case closed. Go in peace—and never claim that policemen take bribes. We simply settle matters quickly and peacefully, just as the Bible instructs. It’s part of our duty.
