FOOD INSECURITY A SELF INFLICTION OR NATURAL?

Joining the conversation

We are so endowed and yet do not appreciate God enough for the natural resources and supplies in this part of the world.

Many countries are faced with pests invasion as enemies of farmers to the extent that an entire 100km of vegetation can be consumed within 24hrs .

Crop Farms meant to feed for 35,000 people can be lost within a week. Upon all ,these countries still making waves on the global lense.

Needless to write much, Ukraine is in full blown war yet exporting grains to feed countries including Nigeria.

It indicates, a people with future in mind in their planning .

Nigeria especially the SW and SE have no reason to lack food to the extent that a spoon of cooked beans or rice at the buka not canteen is now sold for #400/ #500. Small Yam tuber of 6 small round cuts now sold for #3,000.

All of these are indication of inadequate prioritisation of support for food production .

Road Infrastructure and agricultural machine are
germain to rural-urban transportation to aid food production .Most of the agroproduce were wasted to this failures.

* Whoever had gotten something doing in agricultural ecosystem outside this country ,whether in Western ,Eastern ,USA or even Benin Republic here, will never be settled with the level of wastes displays in this countries . From the waste of intellectuals to the treasury looting ,and inefficiency as a result of incompetent personnel handling sensitive sectors of our economy.

Who bears the brunt ?...the masses.
* Who are the masses? A reasonable population are members of a ruling or opposition parties .

* For the ruling party ,one will ask oneself, where is the manifesto ?

Where are the party stalwart that are the engine room to ensure the manifesto is delivered by their representative ...known as 'thrown up leader' at one level or the other; from the ward to state ,presidency ?
*
The opposition hardly ever demonstrated readiness to do better, rather after loosing, gets back to plot capturing the heart of the people come next election . No better game change plan that the masses can see, feel, (without running parallel government ) ,rather by impactful programs and funding that will keep the society ,wanting to trust them come next election .Instead what do you see? Behaviors like street ushin(Agberos), inflammatory statements las in the state of war ,to hunt down ruling government.
The worst is cross-carpeting to the ruling party immediately after loosing an election or when another is near !

All these are signs of a very week nationhood , under-development ,and will take this country nowhere than retrogression !

We are not just there, in term.of our readiness to feed ourselves. What we still live on is the foreign intervention on agricultural supports .We are still crawling and doing catch-up in food production .

In Ondo state for instance, ,precisely on Oda road in Akure lies a huge empty silo, may be about 60,000 or less metric tonnes.sllo. Findings shows it's a federal government property ,but resides in a state and has nothing to fill them , what an irony ?

Ukraine at war feeding us?
So many members of knowledge community in Agriculture are not cared for ,no research or program funds .How would this county not be on her kneels to attract foods and Agriech
for her people . Or how our young best brains flies away (japa syndrome)

This calls for a great concern .

*What do you think reader?*

CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND RESILIENCE CHALLENGE

Theme : Building Resilience towards Climate change

Across Africa, climate change is no longer a distant threat — it’s happening now.

Flooded farmlands. Prolonged droughts. Soaring food prices.

These are the daily realities for far too many agripreneurs striving to feed our communities.

That’s why we created the BRACE Program and need your help to reach the next wave of changemakers.

We’ve already seen how BRACE transforms lives, equipping agri-SMEs with free, practical tools to adapt, grow, and thrive against the odds.

Cohort 3, Batch 2 is now open, and we need your support to reach the farmers, processors, and agri-SMEs tackling climate challenges without the support they deserve.

By joining, they gain:

✔️ Climate-smart agricultural strategies, practices & tools

✔️ Study trips to climate-resilient facilities

✔️ A robust network of mentors & peers

✔️ Free bilingual training (English & French)

This is more than training — it’s a movement. It’s a chance to protect livelihoods, fight food insecurity, and build a sustainable future for Africa.

📅 Deadline: May 11, 2025
