Zulum Dissolves Borno Executive Council Ahead of Elections

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the immediate dissolution of the Borno State Executive Council, according to an official statement.

The move, announced by the Borno State Government, is aimed at giving council members who intend to contest in the forthcoming general elections a fair opportunity to do so.

All commissioners have been directed to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries on or before April 3, 2026.

Governor Zulum thanked the outgoing commissioners for what he described as their dedication and valuable contributions to the development of the state.

The statement was signed by Bukar Tijani, Secretary to the State Government.

‎FROM THE YOUTHS OF BORNO STATE

‎Across Borno State today, many young people are rediscovering something that once felt far away, (HOPE). This renewed belief is being shaped by leaders whose actions speak for themselves, and one such leader is Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS).

‎To the youth, Engr. Bababe represents a leadership style grounded in vision, competence, and consistency. Through his stewardship at BOGIS, we are witnessing how technology, digital mapping, and well-structured systems can improve public service and support long-term development. These strides go beyond administration; they remind young people that professionalism, innovation, and merit still matter in governance.

‎What resonates most with the youth is his calm, disciplined, and forward-looking approach. He works with focus rather than noise, prioritizing the building of systems that will serve the state for years to come. In doing so, he has encouraged many young professionals to believe again in hard work, integrity, and meaningful service.

‎We also extend our sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, for the wisdom and foresight in appointing Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe to lead BOGIS. This decision reflects the Governor’s commitment to placing capable hands in key institutions and empowering leaders who understand both responsibility and innovation.

‎For a generation eager to contribute positively to the future of Borno State, leadership choices like this restore confidence and reshape perspectives. Engr. Bababe’s service stands as proof that effective leadership can rebuild trust, awaken aspirations, and guide the youth toward purposeful engagement in public life.

‎This message is presented by concerned and hopeful youths of Borno State, with gratitude for leadership that continues to redefine what is possible.

The decision followed deliberations by lawmakers, who considered the need for continuity in governance and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.

With the approval, elected local government officials will now serve a three-year term, replacing the previous two-year tenure. The House noted that the extension is expected to allow council leaders more time to plan and implement development projects, as well as strengthen administrative stability across local governments in the state.

Borno State gave Nigeria a king—Kashim Shettima —a political gladiator, master strategist, and arguably the most intellectually formidable leader the state has ever produced. A man whose courage, clarity, and conviction reshaped governance and redefined leadership in difficult times.

Blessed indeed are the people of Borno to have produced such a statesman. Even more blessed that this political colossus has raised and inspired a new generation—a prince in both character and commitment—Comrade Mahmud Muhammad. A celebrated young leader of uncommon brilliance, steadfast loyalty, and unquestionable patriotism.

Thank you, Borno State, for Kashim Shettima.
