Keanu Reeves and his love for the guitar. Long before he became Hollywood's most beloved action star, Keanu Reeves was a musician with a quiet passion for the guitar — a part of his soul that's always stayed true, no matter how big the spotlight grew. His relationship with music began in the late 1980s, around the same time his acting career was taking off. He picked up the bass guitar almost by instinct. "I just loved the sound of the low end," he once said. "It felt like the heartbeat of the song."
In the early 1990s, Reeves co-founded the alternative rock band Dogstar, where he played bass alongside drummer Robert Mailhouse and guitarist Bret Domrose. The trio started out as friends jamming in garages, never expecting fame — but soon they were touring and sharing stages with bands like Bon Jovi and Rancid. Reeves recalled those days fondly: "We played for whoever would listen. It wasn't about being rock stars — it was about playing." Their music, infused with '90s grunge and heartfelt lyrics, earned them a loyal following.
Despite his growing movie fame, Keanu always made time for music. Even while filming The Matrix, he'd sneak in rehearsals. "Music was my balance," he said. "It kept me grounded." When Dogstar disbanded in the early 2000s, Reeves quietly kept his bass close, occasionally performing with other musicians and keeping that creative flame alive.
In 2023, after two decades of silence, Dogstar reunited - older, wiser, and filled with the same raw passion. Their comeback album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees was warmly received, and they toured again, much to fans' delight. Keanu's humility on stage never changed; he often stands back, letting the music speak for itself.

Today, Keanu still finds peace in playing. "It's meditative," he says. "Acting is expression outward; music feels like breathing inward." Whether on screen or strumming under soft lights, Keanu Reeves remains what he's always been - a man chasing sincerity, one note at a time.
