This past weekend, we hosted NGYouthSDGs, we hosted NGYouthSDGs Decent Work & Economic Growth Workshop, creating room for important discussions around youth employment, workplace culture, economic growth, and worker protection.

Beyond opportunities and career growth, participants also explored how young workers can understand their rights, identify workplace abuse, recognize exploitative work conditions, and advocate for healthier professional environments.

The workshop was filled with collaboration, shared experiences, meaningful dialogue, and practical insights that many participants will carry with them long after the workshop ended.

A rural Nigeria study published in BMC Public Health found that while 78.3% of people had heard of digital health tools, only 14.7% actually used them regularly.

This reveals a critical gap not in access, but in understanding and meaningful use of digital health solutions.

In Northern Nigeria, where rural communities make up a large population, this gap is even more pronounced due to: 👇
Low digital literacy
Limited internet access
Weak exposure to health technology

Digital health tools already exist, but awareness alone is not enough to drive impact.

Real change happens when people not only hear about these tools but know how to use them and how they help in their everyday health decisions.

The consultation emphasized the urgent need for scalable climate finance to unlock Nigeria’s distributed solar potential and gathered feedback on the ecoWise Programme design. ecoWise is designed to bridge access to climate finance for small scale solar developers, enabling them to connect more people to clean power and reduce the cost of solar.

In Nigeria, only 7% of young people (aged 15–24) have basic ICT skills, according to data referenced by UNICEF and reported by The Guardian Nigeria.

This isn’t just a skills gap, it’s an awareness gap.
Because without basic digital skills:
👉 Students don’t know about e-learning platforms.
👉 Teachers can’t integrate digital tools into classrooms.
👉 Communities miss out on opportunities to improve education outcomes.

And in Northern Nigeria, where access to education and technology is already limited, this gap is even wider.

Digital tools are not just unavailable.
In many cases, they are simply unknown.
If we want real change, we must go beyond building tools and start building awareness, access, and digital literacy.
