Attention please! In everyday English, people often say "help" rather than "assist" note, ASSIST is a formal word.
Don't say: Samuel will assist you to do the assignment.
Say: Samuel will assist you with the assignment. Help: this pattern is fixed. (Assist sb with or in doing sth.) Samuel will assist you in doing the assignment.
Attention! Common mistakes in English are a delicate subject in English. It's not a safe subject to handle. It's open to questions. Therefore, it requires meticulous approach in dealing with the subject.
