The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo, Barrister Billal Hussein Akinola Akewugberu, has urged Muslims to adopt wisdom and peaceful dialogue when inviting traditional worshippers to Islam.

Speaking during a strategic meeting of Imams, Alfas, and Islamic organizations, the Chief Imam said he would never stand on the mimbar to condemn traditional worshippers by declaring that they would enter hellfire. Instead, he said he would explain the teachings of Islam to them with wisdom, patience, and respect.

According to him, insulting traditional worshippers or ridiculing their deities can only create conflict and bring negative consequences to the community. He stressed that peaceful engagement is the proper approach, noting that many traditional worshippers are members of Muslim families, just as Muslims also have relatives who practise traditional religion.

He therefore called on Islamic preachers to focus on conveying the message of Islam with kindness and good character rather than resorting to insults or abusive language.

Vanguard Media Limited has issued an unreserved public apology after publishing an AI-edited image that incorrectly altered the facial appearance of 14-year-old Nigerian spelling champion, Maryam Yusuf.

In a statement released on July 30, 2026, the media organisation acknowledged that the altered image was mistakenly used in its report on Team Nigeria's victory in China. Vanguard described the publication as an editorial error and expressed regret over the incident.

The newspaper has since removed the AI-generated image and replaced it with the approved original photograph of Maryam Yusuf, reaffirming its commitment to ethical journalism and accurate visual reporting.

Shaykh Ahmed Habeeb Agbaji has dismissed claims that he is against IRU EKUN Security or that he opposed the security outfit's presence in Kwara State.

According to the Islamic scholar, the reports circulating about him are false and misleading. He stated that he has no conflict with IRU EKUN Security or with anyone else, stressing that he remains committed to peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence.

Shaykh Agbaji urged members of the public to disregard the allegations and avoid spreading false information about him.

He therefore called on Muslims to embrace peaceful da'wah, mutual respect, and wisdom in their interactions with people of other beliefs, with the aim of fostering harmony and encouraging a better understanding of Islam.
