A relationship should be two people building together, not constantly trying to prove who cares more, who sacrifices more, who is more successful, or who has the upper hand.
Your partner’s success is not your failure. Their growth doesn’t mean you’re falling behind. You should be able to celebrate their wins without feeling threatened.
Playful competition is fine, but when every disagreement becomes about winning, apologies become a battle, and kindness becomes a scorecard, the relationship slowly stops feeling like a partnership.
You don’t need to defeat the person you love. You need to build with them.
Ask yourself: when my partner succeeds, do I celebrate them or secretly compare myself to them?
