HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER UNDERTAKES DECISIVE ENFORCEMENT ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING AT ZUZUNGI SITE

The Honourable Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Niger State, Hon. Muhammad Qasim Danjuma (Danrimin Agaie), undertook a regulatory inspection of the Zuzungi Mining Site, resulting in decisive enforcement action against illegal mining activities within the area.

During the operation, two foreign nationals were apprehended for engaging in unauthorised mining activities in contravention of established regulatory frameworks. The individuals were promptly handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate legal proceedings in accordance with extant laws.

The inspection exercise, conducted in the company of the Permanent Secretary, Directors of the Ministry, and relevant security personnel, forms part of the Ministry’s intensified efforts to strengthen compliance, enforce regulatory standards, and safeguard the State’s mineral resources from unlawful exploitation.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner reiterated the unequivocal zero-tolerance stance of the Niger State Government on illegal mining, stressing that all operators must strictly adhere to approved guidelines, licensing requirements, and environmental standards. He emphasized that the protection of host communities, preservation of environmental integrity, and enforcement of the rule of law remain central to the State’s mining policy.

This decisive intervention underscores the Ministry’s firm commitment to responsible resource governance, institutional accountability, and the promotion of a secure, transparent, and investment friendly mining environment, in alignment with the vision of His Excellency, Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, and the strategic objectives of the New Niger Agenda.
