Protection without Borders

The fun in seeing them running, the little competitions, the cheering, and the occasional argument over whose turn it is.

But behind all that play is learning to show care to one another.

At our CFS centre in Teradal, Banki, Bama LGA, we remain committed, with support from UNICEF Nigeria, to giving children a space where they can learn, feel safe and simply have the happiest moments.

Right parenting is simply about learning to pause, listen and respond with love.

At Teradal, Banki, Bama LGA, parents came together for a Positive Parenting session to share, learn and reflect on how they can better support their children.

The session focused on practical ways to communicate with children, handle difficult moments calmly, and create a safe and caring environment where children feel heard and valued.

Supported by UNICEF Nigeria, the session reminded parents that raising a child is not only about providing for them it is also about the words we use, the patience we show, and the love we give every day.

A right parenting today can help shape a better tomorrow.

Hygiene should never be overlooked when feeding a baby.

At the UNICEF Clinic in Teradal, Banki, Bama LGA, our Cholera Response Team engaged women awaiting RUTF/RUSF distribution, reinforcing simple but important hygiene practices to keep their babies safe while feeding.

From clean hands and utensils to safe food handling, these small steps can make a big difference in protecting children from Cholera and other illness.

Because good nutrition is not only about what a child eats but also how safely it is prepared and given.

Sometimes all a girl needs is a little time to play and forget her worries for a while.

At our UNICEF funded Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) Centre in Teradal, Banki, Bama LGA, adolescent girls joined a PSS session where they spent time playing Ludo in pairs and enjoying the seesaw, slide, and swings.

There was laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of smiles. These simple moments gave them the chance to connect with one another, and just enjoy being girls.

A big thank you to UNICEF Nigeria for making these moments possible and giving these girls a space where they can play and feel supported.

The smiles said it all.

At Dalaram Clinic in Jere LGA, people who had been profiled for birth registration were handed their Birth Registration Certificates. The happiness that came with receiving it showed just how much it meant.

Having a birth certificate gives people a recognised identity and can make it easier to access important services and opportunities.

For those who received theirs, the moment was a reminder that they are recognised and belong.

Sometimes, dignity begins with having a proof of who you are.

For some families, having the right support means having a way to start again.

Last week, we concluded the final phase of the Reintegration Kits Distribution in Dikwa LGA, providing small scale empowerment support to people who need it most. The kits included poultry support, grinding machines, and local pasta making kits with flour simple items, but ones that can make a real difference in daily life.

Each of this kits represents more than an item. It is an opportunity to earn, provide for a family, and rebuild with dignity.

This support was made possible through funding from OCHA Funds, helping families take steps towards greater stability and self reliance.

Sometimes, making life easier starts with giving someone the right tools to move forward.

Safe Spaces help children feel heard and free to be themselves.

Last week our Banki Team brought psychosocial support activities to children, caregivers and adolescents at our safe space in 500 Housing and Taradal.

The children took part in games, creative activities and teamwork that encouraged confidence, friendships and emotional well-being.

Beyond the activities, these moments gives the children space to connect and grow stronger.

Always remember, together we can fight for a world without su***de!

When people are forced to leave their homes because of crisis, they do not only leave behind a house. They leave behind land, livelihoods and memories.

That is why understanding Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights at the community level matters. People need to know their rights, where to seek help and how to raise concerns when those rights are threatened.

Yesterday, we joined our partner Cedar Foundation For Disability at Muna Kulolori, Bulabulin Golibe, Jere LGA, for a sensitisation on HLP rights. Our Legal Facilitators and Protection Officers engaged community members, shared important information and created space for people with HLP concerns to seek guidance and access to justice.

The session also provided an opportunity to strengthen awareness on Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), helping communities better understand and stay safe from explosive hazards.

Because knowing your rights is an important step towards protecting them.
