The All Progressives Congress (APC) has finalized its list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, dismissing growing calls for a review of its recently concluded primary elections despite widespread petitions and protests from aggrieved aspirants across the country.

Party officials say preparations are underway to submit the names of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signaling the end of the party's internal nomination process and effectively closing the door on demands for fresh primaries.

The move comes amid discontent among several aspirants who have alleged irregularities, manipulation, and imposition of candidates during the primaries held between May 16 and 18.

According to senior party sources, the APC leadership has no plans to alter the outcomes of the contests, insisting that all appeal processes have been concluded in line with the party's timetable.
"We are not reviewing the results of the primaries," a senior party official told reporters on condition of anonymity. "The timeline for primaries and appeals has already elapsed. Everything has been concluded, and we are awaiting access to upload the names of successful candidates."

INEC has scheduled June 26 for the release of access codes to its nomination portal, while July 11 remains the deadline for political parties to submit particulars of their candidates for the 2027 elections.

The primaries resulted in significant political upsets, with no fewer than 54 serving federal lawmakers—including ranking senators and members of the House of Representatives—failing to secure tickets for another term.

In the aftermath, dissatisfied aspirants from states including Lagos, Delta, Zamfara, Kogi, Rivers, Plateau and Osun submitted petitions, threatened legal action, and called for a fresh conduct of the primaries.
However, party insiders maintain that the majority of the appeals lacked merit and did not warrant any substantial changes to the declared results.

"Most of the petitions were found to be frivolous," another APC official familiar with the appeals process said. "Issues relating to zoning arrangements, party defections, or pre-primary disagreements are not sufficient grounds to overturn the outcome of duly conducted primaries."

The official further noted that while legitimate appeals were reviewed, they produced no significant alterations to the final results.

Senator Ahmed Salau Ogembe has strongly denied reports suggesting he is considering withdrawing from the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial Election, describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Friday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate said recent rumours alleging that he was collaborating with political opponents or other political parties to step down from the race were entirely unfounded.

Ogembe accused what he described as "fifth columnists, political detractors, and agents of disinformation" of orchestrating the reports in an attempt to mislead voters across Kogi Central Senatorial District.

"I have neither entered into any agreement nor held any discussions with any individual, group, or political party aimed at compromising my aspiration or withdrawing from the race," the former senator stated.

The clarification comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and candidates intensifying grassroots engagement across the state.

Reaffirming his commitment to the contest, Ogembe said he remains fully focused on his campaign and is determined to secure victory under the platform of the African Democratic Congress. He emphasized that his political agenda is centered on issue-based campaigns, constructive engagement and practical solutions to the challenges facing the people of Kogi Central.

The ADC candidate also called for civility in the political process, stressing that he holds his fellow contestants in high regard and believes politics should serve as a platform for healthy competition rather than division and hostility.

According to him, his campaign is driven by a vision of effective representation, accountable governance, and sustainable development for the district. He pointed to his previous experience in the National Assembly as evidence of his capacity to deliver meaningful legislative representation and attract greater developmental opportunities to Kogi Central.

Ogembe further highlighted the strategic relationships and legislative experience he gained during his tenure in the Senate, arguing that such experience would be instrumental in advancing the interests of the district at the national level.

He urged supporters, party members, and residents of Kogi Central to disregard what he described as false narratives and remain focused on the broader goal of promoting peace, unity and progress.

The former lawmaker concluded by expressing confidence in the prospects of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections, maintaining that the party represents a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking competent leadership and national renewal.

His statement is expected to put to rest speculation surrounding his candidacy as political stakeholders continue preparations for what is shaping up to be a closely watched senatorial contest in Kogi Central.
