Some things don’t break loudly…
They shift quietly.

Practice day came faster than expected.

The choir room felt normal again—
but not for everyone.

Sammy was already at the keyboard, playing softly.
Not a song… just thoughts turning into sound.

“Hey…”

He looked up. It was Tomi.

“You didn’t wait after service on Sunday.”

Sammy shrugged. “You were busy.”

She stepped closer.
“I’m not always too busy for you.”

That line stayed longer than it should have.

Before Sammy could reply—

“Tomi! We’re starting already!”

Favour’s voice cut in.

This time, she didn’t sound cheerful.

Rehearsal started.

Tomi stood in front, leading.
Sammy followed on keys.

But something was off.

“Sammy, you’re dragging the tempo,” Favour said suddenly.

The room went quiet.

Sammy paused. That had never happened before.

“I’m not,” he replied calmly.

Favour forced a small laugh.
“Okay… maybe it’s just me hearing things.”

But her eyes said something else.

After rehearsal—

Tomi walked up to Sammy.
“Don’t mind her. You played well.”

Sammy nodded. “It’s fine.”

But it wasn’t.

Because for the first time…
Favour wasn’t just watching anymore.

She was starting to act.

Outside, as the sun was setting—

Favour stood alone, scrolling through her phone.

Then she stopped.

A picture.

Sunday service.

Tomi smiling.
Sammy in the background… looking at her.

Favour zoomed in slowly.

Her expression changed.

“So it’s like that…” she whispered.

From that moment—

Something shifted.

Not love.
Not yet.

But intention.

Sunday morning in Abuja felt the same as always… but somehow, it wasn’t.

The choir room was already half full—voices warming up, soft laughter, instruments being tuned.

Sammy sat quietly at the keyboard, fingers moving gently… not for attention, just feeling the sound.

“Sammy, you don’t greet again?”
Tomi’s voice came from behind, light but teasing.

He smiled slightly. “I greeted you… just not loud.”

She rolled her eyes and sat beside him.
“You’re always like this. One day, you’ll just disappear and nobody will notice.”

Sammy looked at her for a moment.
“Someone will.”

Across the room, Favour was watching.
Smiling… but not really.

“Tomi! They’ve been looking for you. You’re leading the next song.”

As Tomi walked away with her, Favour glanced back at Sammy.

That look… meant something.

During ministration, everything felt normal.
But for Sammy, every key he played followed her voice.

Not just music.
Something deeper.

After service…

“Guy, you dey always look Tomi like say…”

Sammy didn’t reply.

Because the truth was…
He knew.

From a distance, Tomi laughed with Favour.
But Favour’s eyes were somewhere else.

On Sammy.
