TILL WE MEET AGAIN
DIPLO, as I always called you.

I know I am not dreaming. It is a reality that I will never see you physically again, but I will always see your pictures, remember the memories of our past doings, and listen to your voice because I have your recordings.
You were more than a colleague at Wazobia FM—you were a father, a brother, a friend, a driver, a leader, a one-man army, and a fearless activist in the media, in our communities, in Nigeria, and in the world in general.

You were the loudest voice agitating for positive action from the local, state, and federal governments of Nigeria.
I remember when you were arrested and taken to prison for urinating in an unkempt area with a bushy gutter along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, whereas the government had failed to provide a public toilet.

You paid the price for their failure to provide community projects and enhance development in public places.

When it came to your job responsibilities, you were so bold and blunt. You said it the way it was, without reserving apologies for anybody.

You stood by what you believed in.
You were a man whose presence touched many lives through your profession as a broadcaster.
Not to forget the many artists from the ’80s to 2018, before you stopped being on radio.
I will not want to mention names, but I remember that most artists from the ’90s to 2017 who were able to get through to you one way or the other were given a sense of belonging.

You changed the broadcasting and entertainment industry by showing support for musicians, dancers, comedians, and many other talents. You impacted the industry with your show of love, as your spirit led you.

However, if your spirit didn’t lead you to support someone, you would never give them your attention. But when you decided to support anyone, OH GOD! People would beg you to stop.
The voice against the government’s misrule was a headache to many top government office holders.

You used your voice to expose their misdeeds.
They saw you as an obstacle.
They didn’t like you for saying the truth, and you disliked them for their wrongdoings.
I remember I fought tooth and nail to make you come back, but the so-called small gods with tiny positions who assumed they were big would secretly stamp their feet and say, “No way.”

The so-called regulatory body did not help matters either.
And I believe they have been receiving awards and accolades for their roles in the present situation of the country today.
I hope I will not be wrong to say that they may regret it someday in the future, after they may have been fulfilled and contented, as you have left the media space for them.

I know you had your shortcomings.
You may have made some mistakes, as no man is perfect, and no one has the authority to judge you for your imperfections.
You were a very good man. You always showed concern for people’s plight. You fought for the helpless, even at your place of work.
But life has its retirement date for everyone.

Sometimes, the saddest part is knowing when someone is going through their darkest moments and those who should have stood by them may deliberately decide not to show support.

Perhaps some things are better left unsaid, but I choose to say it the way it is.

Today, it is my decision to remember you for the good, the bad, and the ugly moments—the laughter, the arguments, the quarrels, the warnings, the anger, the advice, the malice, the grumbling, the grudges, the disagreements, the stubbornness, the event invitations, the enjoyment, and the night movements with no particular destination.

From Apapa, Coconut, Ajegunle, Alpha Beach, back to Ynot in VI, then to the office before going home by 5 a.m. after closing from work at 12 a.m.

Your work and office environment adjusted immediately you walked in. They knew the lion had arrived.
It was a great experience and privilege working with you as one of your “conductors,” the way you normally referred to us.

However, the likes of Akas Baba, Expensivehimself, Twitwi, Najite, Fisayo, Vanessa, Mayowa, and Bclean all got a touch of it as your fearless “conductors.”
Although you referred to the ladies as “my girls,” I believe most of us picked up the positive side of your mentorship and are doing well in our various endeavours.
The memories you left behind will never be forgotten.

Your policies and beliefs, though positive, were different from those of the people around you. Where people failed to see, you saw. You exited and created an impact.
May God forgive your shortcomings, grant you eternal rest, and give your family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear your absence.
Relax, my second half. You are not dead; you live on. 🕊️💔

You will be missed.
You will be remembered.
You will never be forgotten.
And God will put to shame all the hypocrites who benefited from you, heard about your predicament, abandoned you, and never showed concern.
After waiting tirelessly and seeing no sign of solidarity, empathy, or support, you decided to go and relax.
Life is full of deceitful people. They are now the first to come out to mourn and attract cheap clout on social media.

You slept peacefully on your bed inside your house and left peacefully.
