🕊️ Remembering Ochanya Ogbaje



Today, we remember Ochanya Ogbanje, a 13-year-old girl whose life was tragically cut short after years of sexual abuse from her guardian and his son,people who were meant to protect her.

The abuse left her with severe health complications, including Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), and eventually led to her death in 2018.

Her story broke the silence on child sexual abuse in Nigeria and gave birth to the movement ,a strong call for justice, accountability, and better protection for every child.

Ochanya’s pain should never be in vain.
Her story reminds us that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and protected.

As an organization, we stand with survivors and renew our commitment to:

• Support survivors in their healing journey.
• Advocate for stronger child protection systems.
• Demand justice for victims like Ochanya.

Today, the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child a day that reminds us of the power, potential, and promise within every young girl.

Yet in many parts of the world, her voice is still silenced.
Her childhood is still stolen.
Her dreams are still traded for tradition.

Recently, in Somalia, groups of men took to the streets protesting against a government ban on child marriage demanding the right to marry underage girls.
It’s a painful reflection of how far we still have to go in protecting the girl child’s rights.

Every time a girl is forced into marriage before she’s ready, something dies inside her
💔 Her right to education
💔 Her chance to dream and discover herself
💔 Her access to health, safety, and dignity
💔 Her voice, silenced before it ever had a chance to echo

But we refuse to stay silent.
