Herdsmen attacks Enugu community, shoot catholic priest, others.

Fulani herdsmen, on Thursday, attacked community in the Nkanu-East Local Government area of Enugu State.

The herders shot sporadically, forcing people to run for safety.

A Catholic priest and the mother of a Reverend sister were shot during the attack.

One of the victim, Rev. Ikechukwu Ilo, who spoke to newsmen, said: “As we drove towards the village (through a road leading to Nnewe community of Aninri), the Fulani herdsmen opened fire, trying to force us to stop.
Seeing that we were not ready to cave in to their intimidation, they started raining bullets on our vehicle at close range and in the process, shot me at my ankle and shoulder while the next victim was shot on his leg and waist.”

As there is still tension in the community and its surroundings, the victims of the attack have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
