Recent discussions and engagements with clients and property owners are generating these questions.
🌍 Lagos State Changing Address Numbers will promote smart cities — but who bears the Facilities Management and business cost?
Lagos State Government is rolling out a new digital addressing and house numbering system to fix long-standing problems with unclear or inconsistent street numbers across the city. This isn’t about randomly renaming addresses — it’s a structured reform to modernise how addresses work in the state.
Lagos has historically struggled with unstructured house numbers, missing street names, and inconsistent address formats. This has made it difficult for:
• Emergency services to locate places quickly
• Delivery services to find homes and businesses
• Urban planning, tax collection, and service delivery to operate efficiently
The new system aims to solve these challenges by assigning each property a unique, digital address with a standard street name and number.
Under the “Identifier Project” or Lagos Identifier Programme:
• Every property gets a unique digital address number
• Address plates may include QR codes and colour codes identifying the LGA
• QR scanning can provide verified property data
The rollout began with a pilot phase in Ikeja and will expand across all LGAs and LCDAs.
⸻
✅ The Benefits
• Faster emergency response times
• Improved postal and delivery services
• Better urban planning and infrastructure mapping
• Clearer property identification for taxation
• Improved security and documentation
It is undeniably part of Lagos’ broader vision to become a smart, digitally enabled city.
⸻
🔎 The FM and Business Discussion
While the system brings clear benefits, it also comes with real costs for homeowners, offices, and businesses:
• Updating branding and signage
• Reprinting stationery and marketing materials
• Updating digital platforms and regulatory documents
• Communicating address changes to clients and stakeholders
So the pressing question remains:
Who bears the cost?
And more importantly —
How do we, as Facility Managers, support clients in adapting efficiently while minimizing operational disruption?
As professionals responsible for assets, compliance, and operational continuity, this is not just an administrative change — it is a transition management issue.
⸻
I’d love to hear from the community:
💬 How is your organisation preparing for these address changes?
💬 What transition strategies can we implement to ease the impact on clients?

The Way Forward for Facilities Management in 2026 — And Our Focus at Bloom
2026 will not reward Facilities Management companies that compete on price alone.
It will reward those that compete on value, discipline, and impact.
At Bloom, our focus going forward is clear:
• Moving from being seen as a service vendor to becoming a strategic facilities partner
• Prioritising asset protection, cost optimisation, safety, and ESG outcomes over task-based delivery
• Saying no to unsustainable contracts that compromise quality and people
• Investing deliberately in people, systems, governance, and technology
• Embedding preventive maintenance, data-driven decisions, and accountability into how we operate
• Aligning Facilities Management with business performance, risk management, and sustainability
The Nigerian FM market is evolving. Clients are becoming more sophisticated, assets more complex, and expectations higher—yet margins remain under pressure. The future belongs to FM companies that are disciplined enough to protect value, bold enough to innovate, and ethical enough to walk away from the wrong deals.
Our commitment in 2026 is simple:
Do fewer things, do them better, and deliver measurable value.
Facilities Management is no longer just about keeping buildings running.
It is about enabling productivity, protecting investments, and sustaining organisations.
That is the path forward.

Detty December — NOT Dirty December.
Our Celebrations Must Reflect Our Values.
As we celebrate culture, music, and connection, it must also be a season of responsibility, sustainability, and civic consciousness.
True celebration should uplift communities, not degrade them.
This Detty December, let’s prove that Lagos can celebrate big and still remain clean, dignified, and sustainable.
Collective action matters.
Government, event planners, waste managers, businesses, and citizens all have a role to play.

🇳🇬 Celebrating Nigeria at 65
This October, as we celebrate Nigeria’s independence, we are reminded that true freedom goes beyond history — it is also about building a nation that is strong, sustainable, and future-ready.
Over the years, Nigeria has witnessed remarkable gains in infrastructure — from expanding road networks and aviation terminals to power projects and digital connectivity. These are not just physical assets; they are enablers of growth, commerce, and national development.
Yet, beyond building, there is a greater responsibility: maintenance and sustainability.
• Infrastructure must be preserved through proactive facility management.
• Cities must be made resilient with sustainable practices.
• Resources must be optimized for the benefit of future generations.
At Bloom PFM, we believe that nation-building is not only about creating new structures but also about sustaining and optimizing what we already have. This is where maintenance culture and sustainability practices become pillars for long-term national progress.
As we celebrate Nigeria’s independence, may we also embrace the responsibility to nurture our assets, protect our environment, and create a legacy of excellence for generations to come.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬💚

🌍 IFMA Global Africa Conference – Lagos 2025 🌍
What an incredible gathering of minds and leaders shaping the future of Facility Management across Africa!
Our CEO Olaoluwa David Korede at this event shared on ethical procurement and bidding practices in Nigeria, and to have had a highly insightful fireside chat with Christa Dodoo, Global IFMA Chair, CFM, CIWFM . Her perspectives added great depth to the discussion and further emphasized the global dimension of FM ethics and leadership.
A heartfelt thank you to the IFMA Nigeria Chapter, its President Sheriff Daramola the entire team, volunteers, and event sponsors whose dedication, hospitality, and coordination made this conference seamless and memorable. Special thanks as well to Lara Paemen.
Proud to be part of this movement for a stronger, sustainable FM industry across Africa.
Key Takeaways:
• Ethics and transparency are critical to driving trust and sustainable growth in FM.
• Sustainability and innovation – from renewable energy to smart digital systems – are no longer optional; they are essential.
• Education and skills development remain central to closing the talent gap and building FM capacity for Africa’s future.
• Collaboration across borders is vital – Africa’s FM challenges are similar, and our solutions can be shared.
• Government leadership matters – as emphasized by Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works, Power & Housing, who underscored the importance of enhancing Nigeria’s maintenance culture and “getting the work done.”

Build. Neglect. Decay. Rebuild. Repeat.
This is sadly the reality for many public assets in Nigeria — and it’s a cycle we must break.
In a recent publication in Punch Newspapers, I discussed the troubling patterns in facility management, especially in light of recent revelations shared by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
He revealed that the former ICC facility, now renamed after the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Conference Centre in Abuja, a newly built project, was:
• Politically handed over to an unqualified individual to manage
• Neglected and not generating funds and projecting a poor image of the Nation to visitors
• Now being reassigned to a proper manager
This case is one of many that highlights why professionalism must take precedence over politics when it comes to managing our infrastructure.
My key message:
Let’s stop celebrating rebuilding what poor management allowed to decay.
We need:
-Transparent procurement processes
-Qualified vendors and certified facility managers
-A culture of preventive maintenance
-Accountability in every stage of the facility lifecycle
I invite you to read more and share your thoughts.
