If a rocket landed near your house this morning, would you still go to church?

While much of southern Lebanon continues to face violence, more than 50 children in the village of Rmeish received their First Holy Communion on May 31, 2026.

According to local reports, a rocket landed between homes in the village earlier that same day. Despite the danger, the parish did not postpone the sacrament.

One father, Rizkallah Alam, whose daughter received her First Communion, said: "We have been living the reality of war since October 8, 2023… The children and their parents live in constant anxiety."

Because of displacement, financial hardship, and ongoing security concerns, many families kept celebrations small this year. But the children still came forward to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.

Think about that for a moment.

These families made sure their children received Jesus despite living with fear and uncertainty. Their witness is a reminder of how much the Eucharist truly matters.

Please keep these children, their families, and all those suffering in Lebanon in your prayers.

Saint Joseph, Terror of Demons, watch over us with your fatherly care and protection. By the power God entrusted to you as guardian of Jesus and Mary, defend us from the snares, temptations, and attacks of the evil one.

You faithfully protected the Holy Family from danger and obeyed God's voice without hesitation. We ask you now to protect our homes, our children, our parents, our families, and all those who are approaching the hour of death.

Obtain for us the grace to remain faithful to Christ, steadfast in prayer, and courageous in times of trial. May your presence bring peace to our hearts and strength against every spiritual danger.

Saint Joseph, mighty protector and Terror of Demons, remain close to us always and lead us safely to Jesus and Mary.

Surviving Biafra: Voices from the Nigerian Civil War – BBC Africa Eye Documentary

For some days now, I've been seeing the above-named documentary in my YouTube feed. I started watching it yesterday, June 15, 2026.

I was not born during the Nigerian Civil War. I read books, saw pictures, and watched a few short clips, but nothing prepared me for the horror I saw in this documentary.

Yet, as I saw the kwashiorkor-ridden bodies of innocent children and looked at the callousness of many of the military officers who fought on both sides of the divide, I realised that I wasn't as horrified as I should have been.

I realised that those who shook the jar many years ago and made us kill one another, thinking we were enemies of one another, are still shaking the jar today.

I realised that, for the greed of some, many are willing to lose their humanity.

Since 1967 till date, we have not stopped killing ourselves. But don't let me be your judge. See the link to the documentary for yourself in the comment section
