As part of our commitment to advancing democratic governance, accountability, and citizen-centered public institutions, CLEEN Foundation is pleased to share reflections from the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Fourth Annual Impact and Legacy Lecture, delivered by Dr. Sam Amadi.
The lecture, titled "Power, Accountability, and the Crisis of Public Trust: Rebuilding the Institutions that Serve the People," examined one of the most pressing challenges facing Nigeria today the need to strengthen institutions that ensure power is exercised in the public interest. Drawing inspiration from the life and legacy of Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma, the lecture highlighted the critical relationship between democracy, accountability, electoral integrity, human rights, and citizen participation.
Dr. Amadi emphasized that sustainable social progress depends on effective mechanisms for controlling and holding power accountable. He reflected on Innocent Chukwuma’s lifelong dedication to promoting democratic values, human rights, police reform, civic engagement, and institutional accountability, demonstrating how active citizenship and strong institutions are essential for building a just and prosperous society.
The lecture also underscored the importance of credible elections, independent institutions, and public trust as foundational pillars of democratic governance. As Nigeria continues its democratic journey, the lessons from Innocent Chukwuma’s legacy remain relevant for policymakers, civil society actors, public institutions, and citizens committed to strengthening democracy and advancing the common good.
We remain inspired by Innocent Chukwuma’s vision and unwavering commitment to accountability, justice, and democratic governance. We will continue to champion reforms and partnerships that promote safer communities, responsive institutions, and meaningful citizen participation.

As part of our Election Security Threat Assessment Report on the Ekiti State 2026 Governorship Election, our analysis of the election security data identified the leading threats with the potential to undermine a peaceful electoral process.
The findings show that:
Vote Buying remains the most frequently reported threat, accounting for 23% of all coded reports.
Political Thuggery follows closely at 19%, highlighting the continued role of violence and coercion in electoral competition.
Misinformation accounts for 15%, underscoring the growing impact of false narratives and information disorder on electoral integrity.
Voter Intimidation represents 13% of reported concerns, raising questions about citizens’ ability to participate freely and safely.
Ballot Snatching contributes 10%, remaining a persistent threat to credible elections.
These findings reinforce the need for coordinated action by electoral stakeholders, security agencies, political parties, civil society organisations, the media, and citizens to address both physical and information-related threats before Election Day.
A peaceful election is not accidental it is the result of proactive planning, accountability, and collective vigilance.
