Some parts of recruitment simply cannot be rushed without consequences. When you try to skip steps or speed through critical processes, you don't save time, you create bigger problems that cost you more later.

Here are 5 things that must be done properly, not quickly:

There's no effortless path to meaningful success. If it were easy, everyone would do it. So yes, it's draining sometimes. But that's not a sign you're failing, it's a sign you're building something sustainable and legit.

Keep going. The consistency you're showing today is creating the stability you'll celebrate tomorrow.

Ever been asked to submit a project during the hiring process? Share what happened.

Your experience could be exactly what the next candidate needs to hear before they decide whether to proceed or protect their time. πŸ‘‡

Let's make this simple.

SKILLS ASSESSMENT:
βœ“ Portfolio review of past work
βœ“ Scenario-based questions during interview
βœ“ 30-60 minute practical test (max)
βœ“ Case study discussions
βœ“ Reference checks

FREE LABOR:
βœ— Full project assignments before any offer
βœ— Work that takes days/weeks to complete
βœ— Solving your actual business problems for free
βœ— Deliverables you can use commercially
βœ— Asking multiple candidates to do the same project, then using the best one

The test is simple:
Could you use this work in your business after the interview?
YES β†’ Pay for it
NO β†’ It might be legitimate assessment (but keep it under 1 hour)

Would you be comfortable doing this much unpaid work as a candidate?
NO β†’ Don't ask them to do it

Assess skills professionally. Respect people's time. Pay for work that has value.

Asking candidates to complete full projects before an interview,or before an offer isn't skills assessment. Its free labor dressed up as evaluation. If you genuinely need work done, pay someone to do it. Hire a freelancer. Commission the project properly.

But if you're trying to assess whether a candidate can do the job, there are better ways:

Ask them to walk through their portfolio. Real work they've already done tells you more than a hypothetical project ever will.

Give them a realistic scenario during the interview. "How would you approach X situation?" reveals their thinking process without requiring hours of unpaid work.

Use timed skills assessments. A 30-60 minute practical test during the interview is reasonable. A full project that takes days is not.

Check references properly. Talk to people who've actually worked with them. Ask specific questions about their skills and work style.

The best candidates know the difference between legitimate assessment and exploitation. When you ask for extensive unpaid work, they walk away, and they're right to.

If you want serious professionals, treat them seriously from the start. Stop asking for free projects. Start asking better questions.

If you're currently job hunting, pause and read this.

One red flag you should never ignore is a vague and constantly changing job description. If a company can't clearly define what they need from the start, you might end up signing up for far more than you bargained for.

Here are 5 interview scheduling best practices that help you stay organized, respectful of candidates time, and professional. Because great hiring experiences don't start in the interview room, they start with the invite.

Save this for your next hiring round or share with someone building their recruitment process.

You found the perfect candidate. Their skills match. Their experience is solid. The interview went well.
Then they rejected your offer. Why?

Because somewhere in your hiring process, you showed them their time didn't matter to you. And top candidates don't work for companies that demonstrate disrespect before day one.

Here's what drives quality candidates away.....

At Rehoboth, we believe every candidate deserves respect, transparency, and genuine support, not just transactional interactions. Your career matters, and how we treat you throughout the process matters just as much.

Thank you for this feedback. It's a privilege to walk this journey with you.
