The Mother and Child Who Shocked Science
Jacqueline Priestman was a British woman from Manchester who became famous for something deeply unsettling.
In 1980, after a heated argument with her husband, she angrily told him, “I hope you break your neck.” Not long after, he did — dying exactly that way.
What followed made people question reality itself.
Strange things started happening whenever Jacqueline was nearby. Light bulbs exploded without warning. Vacuum cleaners burned out. Radios, TVs, and household appliances malfunctioned repeatedly.
The disturbances were so frequent that some electronics stores refused to let her in.
A visiting professor eventually examined her and discovered she had an extreme buildup of static electricity — nearly ten times higher than normal. He advised a special diet and even suggested she walk around her house holding onions to help discharge the excess energy.
Over time, the strange activity slowly faded. But in 1985, when Jacqueline gave birth to her daughter, the phenomenon returned — this time around the child. Her daughter began showing similar electrical disturbances.
To this day, the true cause of Jacqueline Priestman’s High Voltage Syndrome remains unexplained.
“He picked up a girl on the road… she never made it home.”
