PHONETICS; the basis for acquiring
an outstanding accent.
A good knowledge of the
International Phonetic Alphabet
(IPA) is crucial for better eloquence
and in acquiring an educated
accent. If you still find it difficult to
decode phonetic symbols or encode
words, you can chat up Omoregbe
Sylvester Silverstars. He is a
phonetic savvy who can take you
through the nitty-gritty of phonetics.
He's got simplified practical
measures that have worked for
many over the years; five years
precisely.
Many think phonetics is
cumbersome, boring or not
important. You may be right but you
see, if you really want to be better
understood by your audience (mind
you, they may not always be from
you geographical background), give
an impression that you are well
educated, improve your
communication skills... the need for
a smart knowledge of phonetics
cannot be over emphasised. There
will absolutely be no word that you
won't be able to perfectly pronounce
as long as you are able to decode
the phonetic transcription of words.
The method with which you were
thought phonetics in secondary
school may not have been good
enough; and might have been the
reason you settled for statements
like "oh! It's boring'', ''it's too
difficult'', ''after all, I don't think I
really need it''.
Well, the truth is, anyone who wants
to be a better English language
speaker needs Phonetics!
With SilverStar, phonetics is
interesting! and Easy!

HOW ARE YOU?
The most common lying statement
is, ''I am fine''. When a person is
asked how he is, it doesn't take him
much to rush over those three
words. It has become the usual
response for the question, ''How
are you?''.
Why don't we learn to use
responses like, I'm good, I'm very
well, I'm okay. However, when the
reverse is the case, learn to
consciously use the negative (not)
so you don't end up lying.
Thanks.

MISPRONOUNCED WORD.
ROAR.
G'day friends, It's another great day to unlearn a wrong pronunciation.
Read:
The lion ROARS.
A lion ROARS
ROAR, is the sound made by a Lion.
The ROARing of a lion can be very dreadful.
I'm sure 95% must have pronounced ROAR as RO-AH..
Well, the word is a mono-syllable(one syllable) word. Hence, there's no division in the course of pronouncing it.
I know you'll get it perfectly by pronouncing it's homophone, RAW.
ROAR and RAW are homophones, therefore, they should be pronounced the same way!
Ergo, you can say:
A lion RAWS [sic]
Trust you got it.
Thanks!
MISPRONOUNCED WORD.
SUITE.
SUITE and SUIT are two different words, they mean different things and are spelt differently. They are not Homophones like:
Know - No
Two - Too
One - won
Therefore, they shouldn't be pronounced the same way. I have heard people pronounce both words as, *soot /su:t/.
SUIT is pronounced, *soot /su:t/ or *syoot /sju:t/ while, SUITE should be pronounced, *sweet /swi:t/.
Hence, SUITE and SWEET are homophones.
ThankYou!
COMMONLY MIS-PRONOUNCED WORD
XYLOPHONE.
This word has been given several pronunciations. People are no longer sure of the correct one.
Some say, *EKSLOFONE others say *SAILOFONE
Now, which is correct?
/ekslǝfəʊn/ or /sailəfəʊn/
Well, none of the above is correct.
At this juncture, it is important you note that letter 'X' can say two sounds (I.e, in words from English origin). These sounds are /ks/ and /z/.
/z/ is the sound it says when it begins a word and /ks/ is what it says when in the middle or end of the word. Hence, we should say, /z/ as in:
Xerox [pronounced, *zeroks (sic)]
Xenon [pronounced, *zenon (sic) ]
Xenophobia [pronounced, *zenofobia (sic)] etc.
Therefore, the above word should be pronounced, /zailəfəʊn/. *Zylofone.
It says /ks/ when in the middle or end of words.
As in:
Box /bɒks/ (end)
Next /nekst/ (mid)
Axe /æks/ (mid) etc.
Thanks.
I hope someone finds this useful.

ASK and AXE; TASK and TAX.
Good day friends, are you finding the pronunciation of the words above difficult? If you are, here is my simple way of explaining it.
Letter 'X' says /ks/ (sound)
Letter 'S' and 'K' in 'ask' says /sk/.
Hence, AXE is pronounced, /æks/ ('E' is silent), while ASK is pronounced, /æsk/.
Tax /tæks/ (/k/ before /s/)
Task /tæsk/ (/s/ before /k/)
Did you get it? Well, I hope you did.
Thanks
