POLITE INSULT

I like to think I’m inventive with my insults;

not loud, not crude—
just... carefully delivered.

Say someone does something
spectacularly, unapologetically irritating,
the kind that begs for a reaction—

I don’t raise my voice.

I don’t sigh.

I look them dead in the eyes and ask:

Do you love dogs?
The little puppies?

There’s always a pause—
confusion, maybe a smile—

and then, almost inevitably:

“Yes… why?!”

And that’s my cue.
Oh, good.
Then you must know
the English word
for a mother dog;

I let it hang there,
just long enough to grow teeth.

Then, gently—helpfully—I begin:

B…
I…
T…

I watch it happen—
that slow, dawning realization
spreading across their face,
creeping into their eyes.

And just as it lands—
I snap.

“Yes—
that’s exactly what you are.”

HE WOULD BE THE LESSON!

He came to me
In the presence of people:
‎Chest hefting, breath racing, sweat dripping...
‎Said he would deal with me;
‎Said he wanted to teach "me" a lesson...
‎
‎I smiled!
‎Off-ed my shirt,
‎Ran into the room—
‎And returned with a little knife.
‎
‎With my head held high—
‎Standing before the arriving crowd,
‎I lifted the knife to my forehead;
‎And inflicted deep cuts across my temple,
‎Allowing blood trickles down into my eyes...
‎
‎People gathering and whispering in unison:
‎"What is he doing?!"
‎
‎I answered with a devilish grin:
‎"I want to teach 'others' a lesson!"
