Why "8 Hours of Sleep" is a biological lie. đźš«

We’ve been told since we were kids: "Get your 8 hours."
​But have you ever slept for 9 hours and woken up feeling like you were hit by a truck? Or slept for 6 and felt like a superhero?
​That’s because your brain doesn't care about clock hours. It cares about cycles.

​This year, we stop counting minutes and start counting 90-minute windows. Here is the breakdown:

​The 90-Minute Rule: Your brain moves through stages (Light → Deep → REM). A full cycle takes roughly 90 minutes.

​The "Wake-Up" Trap: If you wake up in the middle of Deep sleep (Stage 3), you trigger sleep inertia. You’ll feel groggy for hours, no matter how much caffeine you chug.

​Quality > Quantity: 4 perfect cycles (6 hours) is often better for your cognitive focus than 4.5 messy cycles (7.5 hours) where you're interrupted.

​Try to time your wake-up call to a multiple of 90 minutes. Aiming for 7.5 hours or 6 hours is usually the "sweet spot" for peak neurological recovery.
