On its website, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) states that one of the requirements for applying for a passport for a Minor (under 18 years of age) is for the Father or Mother to provide a letter of consent.
However, this is not what happens in practice. Consent letters are usually not accepted from Mothers, as the Immigration Service personnel usually asks Mothers seeking to make a passport for their kids to provide an affidavit or a letter from the Father. This is usually a challenge for single mothers and it completely contradicts the information shared by the NIS on its website.
Sign this petition to ask the Nigeria Immigration Service to implement its own policy and accept letters of consent from Mothers without creating additional hurdles that hinder them and their children.
