Akwa Ibom May Hand Over 76 Oil Wells to Cross River Before Month End

In a move described as a gesture of goodwill, unity, and regional cooperation, the Akwa Ibom State may hand over 76 oil wells to neighbouring Cross River State before the end of February.

According to insider sources, the decision is said to be influenced by the long-standing historical ties, shared cultural heritage, and years of mutual economic and social benefits between both states.

Cross River and Akwa Ibom have been at loggerheads for years over ownership of the 76 oil wells, which were awarded to Akwa Ibom State by the Supreme Court nearly two decades ago. Despite the ruling, Cross River State has continued to contest the decision and has, at different times, pushed for a review of the ownership arrangement.

However, in what is being described as a show of goodwill and compassion, Akwa Ibom State may reportedly concede 76 palm oil wells to Cross River State as a symbol of unity and progress.

Speaking to journalists, a youth leader, Dr. Jerry Assam, reportedly stated that Akwa Ibom known for its spirit of compassion and generosity, is considering the handover of the palm oil wells to support Cross River State’s economic stability. He urged the government and people of Cross River to appreciate the gesture.

When asked about the location of the palm oil wells, Dr. Assam reportedly indicated that 25 are located in Ukanafun, 20 in Obot Akara, 15 in Esit Eket, while others are said to be located in Essien Udim and Ikot Ekpene respectively.
