My team and I made a beautiful film that celebrates sickle cell warriors, and it will be showing for the first time on June 19 in honor of World Sickle Cell Day.

You can be a part of this and help us bring the film to the audience that matters most.

I used to tell myself I would never act in a film I was directing…
until I did.

When we put out a casting call for a teenage actor with albinism to play Tope, no one showed up. I reached out personally even to friends but still, nothing.

So I became Tope.

Writer. Producer. Director. Lead actor.

It was one of the most demanding experiences of my life holding the weight of an entire production while also carrying a character that required deep vulnerability.

Everything had to work. Every scene. Every moment. Every emotion.
And still, I had to stay in character.

If you ask me if I’d do it again… honestly? Probably not.

Things fell apart more times than I can count. I broke down. I rebuilt myself. I kept going because finishing what we started was not optional.

But what stays with me the most… is how I became Tope.

It didn’t feel like acting.
It felt like surrender.

Vulnerable. Resilient. Quiet strength.

He stayed with me even after filming.
And till now, I still ask myself how?

I didn’t even approach the script as an actor should. I was too busy making the film happen.

So when did he take over?

The only answer I have… is the soul of the story.

The passion.
The sacrifices.
The breaking over and over again leading up to production.

Somewhere in all of that, the story stopped being something I was telling…
and became something that lived in me.

That was Tope.

This June 13, The Sun’s Glory hits your screen.

It’s more than a film.
It’s sacrifice in motion.
It’s my heart on screen.

Writers don’t talk enough about this.

You often hear actors say, “It took me a while to get off character.”
But what about the writer?

How do you detach from a world you created?

Because characters are only a fraction of it.
A writer builds the entire universe—its emotions, tensions, silences.

And when the same visionary is also the director of that world…
detachment becomes even more complex.

You don’t just “snap out of it.”
You carry moments with you. You revisit them—sometimes intentionally, sometimes not.

Not everything leaves.

And maybe that’s the point.

The strongest art doesn’t just make an impact,.. it lingers.
It resists being forgotten. It refuses to crumble.

So maybe the goal isn’t to fully detach…
but to learn how to live with what the story leaves behind.

I can be scrolling through my phone one minute, and the next I’m setting a goal.
Right now, the goal is simple, my debut novel Dark Rainbow crossing $10,000 before our next anniversary.

Good thing we’re already past the halfway mark.
So… who is with me?

Over the past year, I’ve written and developed powerful stories for film and this season, we’re doing something different.

At OGWA Studios, we are opening up collaboration opportunities for brands, organizations, and NGOs who are ready to do more than just partner. This is an invitation to co-build meaningful cinema with us.

At the heart of every OGWA story is social impact—celebrating diversity, promoting inclusion, and telling authentic African stories that are often overlooked or underrepresented.

This year, our upcoming titles explore important themes including:
• Domestic violence
• Marital r**e
• Sexual health
• Identity
• Sickle cell awareness

Following the success of our previous works spotlighting albinism awareness, identity-driven drama, and powerful human stories. we are building a filmography that is not only rich, but purposeful.

Now, we are inviting you to be part of this journey.

If you represent a brand, organization, or NGO that believes in storytelling for change, let’s work together to amplify these conversations and create impact through film.
